“Ben’s Chili Bowl U Street will temporarily close its doors at midnight on Monday, July 14th, 2025, for essential repairs and upgrades. The closure is expected to last four months, with a Grand Reopening planned for November 2025. This marks the first major repair to the historic building in over six decades. “The Metropolitan Police Department’s announces the arrest of a suspect in a fatal pedestrian hit and run crash in Northwest.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Third District officers responded to the intersection of 12th Street and U Street, Northwest for the report of a crash. On scene officers located an adult male lying in the roadway unconscious and not breathing after being struck by a vehicle. (more…)

The note says in part: “The Building has chosen not to renew our lease, so we will be closing our doors at this location.”
