2106 Vermont Ave, NW

Update thanks to Laura for sending from SQUARE 134 ARCHITECTS:

“After 12 years of serving the local community of the U Street corridor, the bar at 2106 Vermont Ave NW will be replaced with a mixed-use development to match the fast-growing density of the area. The massing of the building is a result of creating a balance between the massive developments along Florida Ave and the smaller scale buildings on the block. The proposed building will consist of one retail space and nine residential units. Each unit will consist of four to six bedrooms and structured for communal living. Each resident will have their own private space and be a part of a communal living space within their unit. In addition to that, the building will have an amenity space on the rooftop to serve the entire building.”

“Dear PoPville,

I had a bad experience with my (well-behaved, chill) dog on Howard University Sunday around noon. We were walking through campus when a group of students started screaming at us that dogs weren’t welcome on campus. One girl yelled, “This a closed campus, I’m going to call the cops on you.” The students continued to scream at us and follow us for around five minutes.

Is there a policy against dogs at Howard? (more…)

Thanks to all who forwarded the petition from change.org by Ronald Moten and Dr. Natalie Hopkinson:

“The record store and cell phone carrier at the corner of Georgia and Florida Avenue NW (U Street) has been playing D.C’s indigenous Go-Go Music since the late 1990s. Neighbors in newly constructed condos across the street pressured the city and then T-mobile, to force the owners to stop playing the music. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Wondering if any readers can help me with some good old fashioned sleuthing.

I’ve been cycling in the city for about 6 years now and had my first wreck after a run in with a metro bus. I’m hoping someone onboard witnessed what happened.

On Monday, April 1st around 6:15pm I was biking northbound on Rhode Island Ave NW just past 6th St NW when I noticed the metrobus behind me (likely G9, given the time/place, but I didn’t see the number) was getting pretty close to my rear tire and traveling as a faster speed than I was. The light at New Jersey was green, and I don’t believe the bus driver saw me as they sped up to continue thru the intersection (I was on the right hand side of the right lane since bikes share the road on this part of Rhode Island Ave). Rather than get rear-ended on a bike, I attempted to avoid a crash by entering the driveway of the Valero, but the uneven ground caught my tire and sent me flying. The bus continued on without stopping, and I got a 1-way ticket to the ER, complete with a broken elbow, sprains, and a pretty impressive black eye. (more…)
