From All Souls Bar facebook:

“Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We are in the process of applying for a patio permit in the empty space on 8th Street next to the bar. This is being met with opposition. Once again we feel this opposition is unwarranted with some misinterpretation of the law and our intentions.

We’ve attended the last two ANC ABRA committee meetings to present our ideas and discuss them with the neighborhood. You can read about them here thanks to Short Articles about Long Meetings:
http://shortarticlesaboutlongmeetings.blogspot.com/…/all-so…
http://shortarticlesaboutlongmeetings.blogspot.com/…/two-qu…

Our intention is to create an outdoor space for the neighborhood to enjoy. An extension of who we are; a simple gathering place that is cared for and well maintained. We want to take a barren lot and surround it with trees and plantings to beautify the corner for pedestrians and patrons alike.

We want a patio with table service only—no standing, no speakers and no smoking (sorry folks). A patio with limited hours. We want a place that will enhance our neighborhood by making it greener and safer by having more eyes on the street. A place that is not a threat to peace, order and quiet.

If you believe in All Souls and our outdoor vision please let the ANC know how you feel. We will need all the support we can get before our next committee meeting April 15.

Thanks for your help,

Thanks to a reader for passing on an email from Reformation Fitness (currently located up the block):

“We are incredibly excited to confirm all the whispers you’ve heard in the annals of our studio: we’re packing up and moving to a new space!

No need to get your sweat-wicking shirts in a twist about how far away the new location will be. Our studios will finally be consolidated under one roof at 1218 9th Street NW: just 100 lunges, 75 skips, or 62 broad jumps south of our current location. Here’s a teaser of some of the things you can expect:

Four brand spankin’ new exercise studios, clocking in at almost 3,000 square feet of dedicated workout space.
More program options, class times and expanded offerings.
Additional floor space per workout, so you don’t have to worry about bumping your neighbor.
Spin bikes and Woodway Curve treadmills!

You may be worried that class sizes will increase with the larger space. Allow us to ease your heart palpitations. Group Reformer sessions will go from six to seven spots to accommodate demand during peak times, and Studio Classes will be capped at 12-15 members. You’ll get the same personal hands-on attention you’ve come to love while still feeling like you can twirl around like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.

Stay tuned for much more detail in the coming weeks and months. WE CAN’T WAIT!”

Big news from the Bloomingdale Blog spotted in the Bates Area Civic Association Meeting Agenda for April 6, 2015 7:00pm

“Sam and Rachel Fitz, Basque Bar LLC – Restaurant at 300 Florida Ave NW

CityPaper previously reported:

“Beer aficionado Sam Fitz is leaving his position as bar manager of Pizzeria Paradiso over the next month to open his own place with his sister Rachel Fitz. He’s not revealing a lot of the details at this time, but the business will be in D.C. and take inspiration from a cider-focused trip he took to the French and Spanish Basque country last February. He’s registered an LLC for “Basque Bar.

Columbia Heights/Adams Morgan folks may recognize Sam from his time as Beer Director and Cicerone at Meridian Pint and Smoke and Barrel. He also judged 14 beers for us.

Updates when more is known.

“Terrible news for Shaw. Note that they spelled “coming” wrong.”

“Hey @PoPville any scuttlebutt on this? “Comming soon” to the space below coney & ivy. #shaw”

Now, I have to admit that I’m friendly with the owners of Ivy & Coney and while they’ve told me nothing I do know that they are fond of the occasional practical joke. Now I could be completely wrong on this – but I’m guessing this is an early April Fools joke. Especially given the typo and all.

On the other hand it’s quite possible I’ve just become paranoid. That would be quite the juxtaposition – Ivy & Coney and McFadden’s in the same building… Stay tuned.
