“Let the brand merge begin! Welcome Sticky Fingers Diner to the H St. NE family. Farewell to Eat Fare Well, in name only.”

I just walked by the space formerly occupied by Fare Well, the vegan diner located at 406 H St NE. I noticed that the Fare Well signage has been removed and replaced with Sticky Fingers signage. I know the two eateries share the same ownership group, but I wonder what this means in practical terms for the business model. (more…)


A reader reported around 8pm: “Shooting (shots fired) at 7pm at the corner of 9th and K NE, 8-10 shots. Police said two shooters, nobody injured. Some windows and houses shot into.”

“all-you-can-eat-&-drink event this Saturday afternoon at Whiskey’s w/ chef Ryan Gordon from Queen Vic. One of the beers is the particularly rare and amazing 2015 vintage Anderson Valley Huge Arker (15.5% ABV bourbon barrel-aged stout). We’ll also be “burning the bock” (aka “bock poking” or “bierstachl”), here’s a video clip that explains the interesting (or maybe silly) tradition of sticking a hot poker in dark malt beer to caramelize the sugars.

A few folks were asking about Butter Chicken Company and the owner tells me about the long term plans which led to the closure of two DC spots (on H Street, NE above and in Dupont on 19th St) which suffered during the pandemic.
