“Zen taco replacing custom fuel on Pennsylvania Ave by the white house”

Zen Taco’s website says:

“Zen Taco (aka TruTaco), founded in 2016, is a place where flavors you know and love come together in a bold, unique, and delicious way. Inspired by the flavors of Latin America and Asia, here we bring together these two worlds and the result is Truly delicious.

By combining slowly roasted meats, freshly prepared vegetables, healthy grains and a variety of other toppings and fixings, we’re able to serve up authenticity like you’ve never tasted it before. And, while the food we serve takes hours to prepare, it comes together in minutes when you order it.”

Check out their menus here.

Updates as they get closer to opening.

From Bub and Pop’s (1815 M Street, NW):

“A few minutes ago while working in the office, our Assistant Manager, Ebony just came back to tell me that Capriotti’s has closed their doors.

This actually saddens me because I well understand the amount of effort it takes to start up and own and operate a restaurant. The folks at Capriotti’s worked very had and we at Bub and Pop’s certainly wish them well. I hope that all of their employees can find work quickly.”

Ed. Note: Capriotti’s opened here back in November 2013. “founded in Wilmington, DE and long a favorite of Delaware beach-goers.”

Thanks to Anna for passing on from the Brightwood Listserv:

“Fellow Neighbors,

I found a Knoxville College class of 1985 graduation ring on the streets of downtown DC, near the Washington Monument, next to a food truck tire.

The name engraved on the interior says, Cheryl A. Essex.

Through simple research, I found that Cheryl may have been a law enforcement officer, is originally from Washington, DC but currently lives in Maryland.

Since DC is a huge networking society, I decided to reach out on here.

I’m hoping this message can be shared, or tips can be given.

I know what it’s like to lose something valuable.

I want to give her the ring back!

Help me find her!

Best,
Emily”

If you are/know Cheryl please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with Emily.

Mackey’s moved to the former Laughing Man Tavern space back in March 2017. Still waiting to see what becomes of that space. City Paper reported: they’ll be coming to the Hotel RL Washington DC.

The liquor license placard for Pisco Y Nazca Gastro Bar says:

“New Restaurant, serving Spanish cuisine. Total Occupancy Load is 230, with seating for 230.”

Their website for a Florida location says:

“Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar adds a modern twist to traditional Peruvian cuisine. Inspired by Peru’s top ceviche eateries, this new Miami restaurant serves up bold-flavored dishes, unique cocktails and a vast selection of local and international beers.”

Check out their menu too.

Maybe this is the Mackey’s space? STAY TUNED.

1206 G Street, NW

Thanks to Hannah for sending:

“A coworker told me that a new location of Rice Bar had popped up near my workplace and I went today to check it out. The employees said that it opened last Monday and I heard a lot of people in the store say “I had no idea this was here!” So it seems like they didn’t get the word out enough (and should! Rice Bar is awesome). 1206 G St NW across from the Macy’s.”

Ed. Note: Rice Bar also has locations at 1015 15th St NW, 1020 19th St NW, 600 Maryland Ave SW and 409 3rd St SW (and one is coming to Crystal City too.) You can see their full menus here.

More photos after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to Theresa for passing on the good (depending upon where you live/work) news from the MOTH listserv:

“A few days ago we saw Helen at the old Lawson’s Deli! She starts paying rent in February and is hoping the renovation of the space is done by then and the bagel ovens are in. She’s been looking for 2 years and had no luck on the hill but you will soon be able to enjoy bagels from Bagels and Baguettes at the corner of 10th and New York Ave NW (the building is actually 901 New York Avenue – same as Acadiana near City Center).”

14th and I Street, NW

Landon reports:

“Our very own Xmas miracle Compass Coffee opened it’s new and crazy convenient location at 14th and Eye!”

Steven adds:

Free drinks all day long: anything on menu, any size!

Compass Coffee also tells me that the new Farragut Square location (800 17th Street, NW) also opens today confirming free drinks there too:

“Offering any coffee drink, any size, FREE all day!”
