“This Wawa is so big hey have a whole Slim Jim bar. I have never seen this at a Wawa before, and am kind of shocked there are so many Slim Jim flavors.” hahaha thanks to Scott for sending. And so conclude today’s Wawa coverage.

Operatives on the ground tell me – free coffee for the first 3 days and special gifts for police officers and firefighters.

And just how excited are folks:

“Some interesting details from my coworker who got in line at 7am to be one of the first 100 people to get a $50 wawa gift cards:

-People broke into wawa chants
-People broke into Eagles chants
-There was a NYE style countdown for the 8am opening
-The staff lined up in a receiving line to high-five all the guests as they came in the store
-There is a string quartet inside wawa
-At 10am, the police and firefighters will have a contest to see who makes the best hoagie.”

The line to get in at 8am:

Thanks to Hannah for sending the good word on Arepa Zone‘s opening:

“Open now (and I’m here!). Apprently they had their soft opening yesterday and the line is almost out the door. Looks like they added some new things not offered on the food truck or at Union Market to the menu too.”

“Dear PoPville,

L St NW is blocked off in front of my building (between 13th & 14th St) to both car & foot traffic – lots of police presence – building personnel is saying it’s related to suspicious activity. I was just wondering if anyone had more info – all I could find was this tweet from DC Traffic”

At first I thought this was probably a suspicious package but I’m hearing there may have been a specific threat directed at a building down there. Updates when more is known.

“I just came across a new bakery on Connecticut Ave near Farragut (1130 Connecticut Ave., NW). They mostly sell pies and cakes, whole and by the slice, but there were also some other baked goods (brownies, blondies, macaroons, cupcakes). The piece of sweet potato pie I got was excellent.”
