Pizzeria Vetri D.C.
June 2016

Marc Vetri and his team are excited to open the 4th location of Pizzeria Vetri, dedicated to the fine art of authentic Italian pizza making, in Washington, D.C. this June. After successfully opening 2 locations in Vetri’s home base of Philadelphia, along with their latest location in Austin, Texas, Pizzeria Vetri D.C will feature an expansive selection of seasonal, wood-fired pies in a casual, comfortable setting. From the classic Margherita and rotating Pizza al Taglio, to cult favorites like the Rotolo, a crispy pinwheel of pizza dough filled with ricotta and mortadella topped with pistachio pesto, fresh salads and dolci offerings, all ingredients are made in house daily using only the finest ingredients. James Beard Award-winning Chef Marc Vetri and his team are excited to bring the latest iteration of Pizzeria Vetri to the nation’s capital this summer.”

“This is your chance to own a piece of DC jazz history. Everything from Bohemian Caverns in DC is being sold at online only auction from the drum set to the sound equipment and barstools.

The sold out shows for this Friday and Saturday night will be the last at Bohemian Caverns. Once the last songs have played the doors will shut for good and everything inside the basement level caverns will be sold at online auction along with the restaurant equipment from the ground floor, and even the disco ball from the third floor night club.

Turntable

There is a little bit of everything in the online auction including five TVs, turntables, stage lighting, speakers, microphones, the keyboard and drum set, restaurant equipment, lounge sofas, patio furniture and more. Everything is happening fast, and by 5 p.m. on Wednesday the 30th the place will be completely empty. (more…)

Over the summer a reader sent some scuttlebutt saying a new coffee spot, likely a Philz coffee, would be coming to the new Manhattan Development. They were close – instead of San Fransisco it’ll be more Philly coffee – La Colombe. Washington Business Journal reports:

1346 Florida Ave. NW: Interior fit-out of space in this Douglas Development building, its Manhattan Laundry project, for a new 2,500-square-foot La Colombe cafe.”

This will be the third La Colombe in DC after the one in Blagden Alley and Chinatown.

2016-Funk-Parade

DC’s Funk Parade and Grammy-nominated local artist Kokayi put out a call for donations Tuesday to Washington residents: send us your sounds of the city.

The sounds are for a collaborative city-wide composition project, “Sounds of the City,” to create a song for DC, which Kokayi will compose with the donated sounds.

Washingtonians are asked to record sounds for the project and send them using their smartphones. Instructions are at http://soundsofthe.city. (more…)

A very interesting and sad story from the City Paper:

“Legendary U Street jazz club Bohemian Caverns will close at the end of March.”

You can see the calendar of their last scheduled events here. And you can read some more of their history here.

So where will you listen to Jazz now? Sad to see how many spots we briefly discussed in 2008 are no longer around.
