“Dear PoPville,

What is this? Traffic camera? Saw this on North Capitol Ave just south of Pierce pointed at the northbound lane. It seems temporary. Is it a sound monitor?”

Thanks to Sam for sending:

“This sign’s being installed today at the lot at First and Pierce Streets NE, which has been used as a NoMa community hub (including for summer movie screenings and as a sometimes illicit dog park) for the last few years. Looks like the party’s ending in a couple weeks.”

“Dear PoPville,

Duet has been closed since the fire in December and I noticed today that the sign had been replaced. Looks like an outpost of Masala Art. Hope they can make it work, though I miss Toscana!”

“Dear PoPville,

I live at 1st and R St. NW near Big Bear Cafe in Bloomingdale. was awakened at 2:44am this morning by an unusually loud, low-flying helicopter. It seemed to be making repeated passes right over our house in intervals of about 30 seconds (i.e. never straying far from directly overhead. Objects on shelves and nightstand and walls in my room were rattling when the helicopter passed over our house. This lasted for quite some time — approximately 20 minutes. Any idea what was going on?”

A few folks also inquired @PoPville on twitter and Alan found from US Park Police that: “The Eagle was assisting MPD with a critical missing 70 y.o. with dementia.”

“Dear PoPville,

This morning they started the demolition of the old nightclub Ibiza at First and Patterson (between N and M) in NoMa. Rumor has it that another hotel will be going up on that spot.”

More than a rumor! Washington Business Journal reported that a citizenM hotel is coming. Updates as construction progresses.
