A reader writes around 6:15pm:
Lots of cops swarming the area from the NoMa metro to the dc schools building at 3rd and R St NE. Apparently three people jumped a cyclist and beat him. When I walked by I could see a fair amount of blood and the victim had obvious head wounds. They just took the victim to the hospital by ambulance.
Ed. Note: We last talked about a cyclist assaulted on the MBT trail in Feb. 2013.

A couple of weeks ago we noted the H&M coming to Friendship Heights would be opening this summer. Turns out H&M is also aiming to open their Union Station store in the former Barnes and Noble space this summer.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin making extensive infrastructure improvements and repairs on First Street, NE between G Street, NE and New York Avenue, NE starting on May 28, 2013. These repairs and improvements should be completed by the end of February 2014, weather permitting.
Construction hours in the area will be Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. During construction, only one southbound lane on First Street, NE will remain open to traffic and curbside parking will be halted along this corridor. However, access to adjacent businesses and residences in the area will be maintained.
DDOT will be installing the following improvements in this corridor during this project:
· New roadway, cycle track and rain gardens
· New streetlights, traffic signals, granite curbs, storm drains and brick gutters
· Upgraded sidewalk and pedestrian rampsTraffic control signs will be in place to guide travelers in the corridor and direct traffic to alternative routes. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are urged to stay alert and use caution when traveling by the work zone.

The space is located right across the street from the Timothy Dean Burger coming to the Loree Grand.
The Le Pain Quotidien coming to the former Corner Bakery space in Union Station has applied for a liquor license which says:
“New Communal table restaurant and bakery store. Seating Capacity is 68. Total occupancy load is 83.”
They’ll be open Sunday through Saturday 7:00 am – 10:00 pm.
