“That’s Blair Rd in the foreground, with N. Capitol on the far side of the house/island. (Taken from the corner of Madison and Blair.)”

Thanks to Carin for sending:

“There is definitely a house going up in the triangle where N Capitol and Blair Rd come together N of Madison St NE. Do I remember somebody discussing this? PoPville? I’m picturing a family who will never, ever be able to cross the street to leave their house.”

A reader reports:

“I know pop-ups and pop-backs have been featured at length before, but I have never seen one quite like this – an addition onto the addition with an old back porch incorporated onto the first level.”

It’s no secret that during snow holidays folks like to, eh, unwind a bit. That is half the fun. When folks unwind and send me emails it is the best. It is not fair for me to keep them to myself any longer so with no further ado I give you Volume One:

“Forgot to say – from Manor Park!*

*The Best Park (fuck Woodley, fuck Park View, fuck Cleveland Park, as a Park and as a neighborhood too, and if you wanna be down with Brightwood, then fuck you too).”

Cheers LK and a beautiful photo too!! The original NSFW:

VIP Room
6201 Third Street, NW

Thanks to a reader for sending and asking who they are. The VIP Room’s website says:

“Abner “Sam” Sampson started in business selling Air-Way vacuum cleaners door to door. His career blossomed as he was named the national “Air-Way Salesman of the Year” for several consecutive years. Inspiring to reach new heights and fulfill his dreams, Sam purchased the Air-Way franchise from his boss Mr. Radar, and then founded Air-Way Sales and Services, Inc. As the owner, Sam expanded the business to include selling carpet and draperies.

In 1978, Sam moved his office from one end of the 6200 block of Rittenhouse Street, NW to the other corner of Rittenhouse Street, NW. There was a lot of extra space in the new building, and Sam was just using it for his office and storage. Sam said that he was not going to pay to heat the whole building for nothing, so he rented out the extra space for business meetings. (more…)

This event is the latest in a series of successful neighborhood yard sales that have occurred in Brookland and Shepard Park, which had 60 and 40 households respectively.

The event is organized by the Manor Park Citizens Association, which first formed in 1923 and developed the neighborhood’s reputation as a City of Homes.

Manor Park is the historic neighborhood that is bordered by Missouri Ave on the south, Georgia Ave on the west, Aspen St on the north and Blair Rd / North Capitol St on the east.
