From The Logan Circle Community Association:

“Join us Wednesday, October 11, 7:00 to 9:00PM, in a lively conversation with Theatre leadership and community members that explore the themes and context of Studio’s plays, alongside ways for audiences to engage with the process, and people behind the work on their stages.

Studio Theatre is Washington’s premier venue for contemporary theatre, where local audiences will find today’s edgiest playwrights. Located in DC’s Logan Circle neighborhood for more than 35 years, Studio led the transformation of the 14th Street corridor into the vibrant mixed-use neighborhood that feels like one of the liveliest in the District.

Word is out on who’s taking over the former Maki Shop space in Logan. Washington Business Journal reported:

“Smoothie King will open on 14th Street NW. The juice and smoothie-focused chain is finalizing a lease for 1522 14th St. NW, according to Chad Tramuta, franchise development manager for Smoothie King.”

I’m sorry but I can’t muster a single exclamation point for this news. I guess at least it’s not becoming a make your own pizza spot…

“View from Shaw/Howard” photo by Kati

Kati reports:

“fire somewhere along the 14th St corridor?”

Daniel reports:

“huge fire happening near Logan circle. Could hear explosions and can see the flames from 4 blocks away. DCFD on the way now.”

Updates as more is known.

Update: Brent also reports: “explosion (4 popping sounds) off Logan Circle /13th Street.”

And David reports it’s at the building at the corner of Vermont/12th and Q Street, NW:

“Heard an explosion then the fire trucks. The deck is on fire.”

“Dear PoPville,

I walk by this apartment on the way to my car every morning and wonder if this is permitted in DC? I assume the owner has had problems with keeping this entrance safe and clean, but this has been up for several months and I wonder why he hasn’t installed bars or something that doesn’t make Logan Circle look like a war zone.”

15th and P Street, NW

Thanks to all who passed on the news from the Washington Business Journal:

“Details on the new restaurant are scarce; we’ve reached out to a representative for Phillips and will update this post when we hear back. But the Baltimore-based seafood chain opened 10 Tavern in Chinatown earlier this year, taking part of the former Redline sports bar space.”

Back in June we learned that Tortilla Coast has closed at the prime corner of 15th and P St, NW. Chris told us a Wawa was coming. Alas, something from Phillips Seafood it is. Good news or bad news?
