Legacy HiFi, the 18th street corridor’s newest bar, will open tonight, November 27, with affordable cocktails, a concise but delicious menu and a welcoming vibe. Led by partners Tim Slayton (a former lead bartender at Marvin), Tyler Stoe (Legacy DC Art Gallery) and Mathew Ramsey (of Pornburger fame), Legacy HiFi brings the Legacy brand – blending art, music, media and streetwear – into its next iteration: hospitality. The dimly-lit, hip, artsy and unique space features old-school TVs, a vintage soda machine, street art, and an elevated area for live music performances and weekly DJs. (more…)

Yo!! Oh my goodness. I was lucky enough to catch one of Hi Fi‘s owners, Tyler (super cool guy, totally unpretentious, very very promising for this joint), on my Saturday walkabout and he invited me in for a little tour and chat. All I can say is that the Gods are kind once again because this place sounds absolutely awesome. If all goes well they should be soft opening on Wednesday (will update if any of that changes.) 2009 18th Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

It took a really long time to build this restaurant at the corner of 18th and California NW, and the restaurant lasted only a very short while. I had one meal there that I thought was pretty poor but didn’t get a chance to give them a second change before they closed. It’s an interesting space architecturally with lots of outside seating in front and in the back, and it should be a natural.

I chatted up a woman who was coming out of it a week or two ago. (more…)
