“Dear PoPville,
Any updates on when (if?) the long-awaited Hains Point bike lanes will actually be put in? Back in November the word was they’d be installed in one week in early December. But here we are in June, and as of last weekend when I was there biking … nothing. Has anyone seen an updated timeline?”

Update from NPS (July 6):
“We’re working with @DDOTDC to restripe Ohio Drive around Hains Point, creating a safer pathway for bikers & pedestrians. The road will remain open during the 6 week project, but some parking areas will be closed”

“Dear PoPville,
Hyundai with Utah plates showed up overnight on Appleton. Parking job suggests the parker was either ditching it or has a lot of misplaced trust in the world… (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been unable to pay my Washington Gas bill for over a month. Some bug in their credit card processing. More-than-weekly emails have yielded assurances that the issue will be fixed, but here we are. Am I alone?”

“Dear PoPville,
I have a question I’m hoping the community can help with. I have a friend coming into town for the Fourth of July weekend but leaving on the 4th. I am hoping to take her to see some fireworks, but haven’t had any luck finding events for July 1-3. Anyone know of some shows over the weekend?”

“Dear PoPville,
We got a notice from DDOT earlier this week that our alley (in Hill East) is going to be repaved later this month. Our existing alley is concrete, however multiple alleys that are immediately adjacent to us (including the alley immediately south of us) are brick.
A couple of my neighbors and I wrote to DDOT asking if our alley could be converted to brick, consistent with other surrounding alleys. We had been advised that DDOT might try to shut us down using the argument that Hill East isn’t a “historic neighborhood” and therefore not eligible for brick, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
The long dedicated bike lane running along the west side of 15th street NW is a main bike artery through the city, but often causes a level of false confidence and safety to riders. People blowing down the bike lane near Meridian hill Park are met with the intersection of Florida, W, 15th, and New Hampshire, which has a very awkward traffic pattern and some blind spots. (more…)

Thanks to Lauren for sending:
“hey changed the traffic pattern on Arkansas Ave and Iowa Ave NW. You can only turn northeastbound on Arkansas from Iowa, and Iowa between 14th and Arkansas is one way!”

“Dear PoPville,
I’m in the process of renting out my space to a tenant that uses the DCHA voucher program. The tenant-to-be seems great, is doing all the paperwork on their end, and is ready to move in ASAP. The problem here is DCHA. We submitted the appropriate paperwork well over a month ago and to say they are moving slow is an understatement. They are taking days, if not weeks, to reply to us with really no movement towards approval. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Wondering, anyone have a good recommendation for handling tree trimming work in DC?”
