Yesterday (Sunday, July 2nd), we had a young man come to our door. He was soliciting donations for the DC Futures program and said he was close to his $100 goal. His pitch was slick, but very fast paced and felt like a hustle. He showed a permit, however, I couldn’t get a good look at it before I told him to move on. Is a permit required to go door-to-door?
After he left, I looked up DC Futures, since I had never heard of it. It is a real program that has a scholarship and financial assistance, but there is nothing on their website about fundraising. I reached out to them through email (response was super quick!), and they said they do not have kids going door-to-door for donations. I wanted to alert others to this potential scam.”
