“Dear PoPville,

I had a run in with this lady back in June on the 1800 block of Columbia Road NW at the entrance of Kalorama Park.

It was at about 10pm and I was taking my dog out. She was walking on the street and kept staring at us. Then she walked across the street and kept staring then started walking toward us. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

When 9th Street was restriped/redone a couple of years ago, near the Convention Center at K/New York Avenue the lanes south shifted, creating a parking area for cars/taxis at L Street by the Marriott Marquis. Previously, there was a taxi stand/waiting area at the corner of K Street, but that was eliminated as it was blocking traffic going south and creating a bottleneck. Then, sometime later a new sign was added, putting the taxi stand back, which to no surprise, again created a bottleneck that was, during rush hour blocks long as two lanes needed to merge to one specifically and only because of the location of the taxi stand. I noticed this week those signs were again eliminated and only the no parking sign (pictured) was present, but that cones from the construction across the street were put in place, blocking a lane, plus taxi cabs are parking where this sign is, illegally. “Dear PoPville,

I’m getting my wife’s family and mine together for a small post-wedding celebration right before Christmas / New Year’s. We need things to celebrate these days, right?! We’re looking for someone / a company that can provide catering for 30ish people. I’d love to know if anyone has caterers they’d recommend who’d be able to do a non-holiday themed meal at the end of the year. Thanks so much!”

“Dear PoPville,

The post office at 1921 Florida Ave NW is closing for good on Dec. 13. This is horrible news for the community around the post office and for people who find this post office branch accessible and use it every day, including the elderly and others. (more…)

Readers ask: “We’re staying in town this year for a very low key Thanksgiving, and thought it would be nice to give back to the community. Crowdsourcing the Popville community for any knowledge of local volunteer events on Thanksgiving day or over the weekend. Park clean up, food drives, etc. Thanks in advance!”

“wondering if we can crowdsource ideas for volunteering on Thanksgiving?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been seeing these ads plastered all over Columbia Heights and Mt Pleasant. I’m curious but can’t figure out a contact from these signs. Does anyone know how to contact them? I’d love to get more information!”
