I’m wondering if you or your readers may have any updates on the development at 901 Monroe St NE in Brookland – or maybe it’s stalled indefinitely?
901 Monroe is the vacant lot directly across from the Brookland metro station’s bus loop and, according to old PoPville posts, no progress has been made following demolition over ten years ago.
It’s so unfortunate that a large piece of land in a prime location can sit empty for so long. I’d love to see dense, affordable housing and retail built there, especially since 901 Monroe is literally across the street from Metrorail, Metrobus, and bikeshare and is accessible to the recently-lengthened MBT. A full-service supermarket would be an ideal anchor tenant and is something Brookland has deserved for years (Yes! Organic Market is fine but isn’t as affordable or extensive when compared to other local grocery stores).”
