“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if the Popville community have any suggestions for where we could go pick up a great Christmas dinner! We will be here for the holidays this year and would love to support local restaurants. But we also don’t want to break the bank. There’s just two of us! Wondering if anyone has great recommendations from ordering out Thanksgiving?”

“Dear PoPville,

Yesterday around 2:30pm a friend was in a hit and run on North Capitol after Michigan and just before the Irving exit going north bound. He was hit by a new white Ranger Rover with Maryland tags. They did not stop.

My friend was driving his new (used) dream truck he has just purchased two days ago. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I used to get my hair cut by Lareesa at the Hair Cuttery in Dupont Circle, which closed a few months ago when all salons were closed. Since then other Hair Cuttery salons have reopened but I don’t know where the stylists who used to work at the Dupont Circle location ended up. Maybe some of your readers have heard something? There were a lot of great stylists there who had regulars and I sure would love to know where Lareesa ended up!”

“I have been a long-time customer of the Brooks Brothers in Dupont Circle, and I was dismayed when I saw that location was permanently closing. Not only did I love their merchandise, but their tailor was excellent. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My family would love to donate blood this holiday (my grandmother in Texas just needed a transfusion and wasn’t able to get it because of shortages, which is terrifying), but it isn’t obvious how to donate blood these days. Has anyone donated and, if so, any tips on how to do it?”

“Dear PoPville,

I got an Amazon package stolen from my porch within 15 minutes of delivery today.
The modus operandi is walk back and forth to make sure the package is still there, come to the door and pretend knock, hang out for a few seconds not to seem suspicious, then leave.

My husband saw the thief on the Nest app and followed him down the road, he confronted him and told him: “were you just on my porch?” – the thief was hiding the package inside his coat – to which he replied: “oh yeah, wrong house”

It wasn’t worth it getting stabbed over a package so my husband let it go. The police said the thief will probably wear the same hat, coat and/or backpack again. Please share so people are aware.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if readers might have places they’d recommend for clothing repair? In particular I’m looking for some place where I can have socks darned. I’m trying to waste less and figure this is one way to do it while also hopefully supporting a local business.”

“Dear PoPville,

A shout out to Dua Coffee on McPherson Square! This place has been giving me good vibes throughout this stupid pandemic. The staff is incredibly nice, the coffee is excellent, and it just feels like a nice escape from The Year That Shall Live in Infamy.

I’m sure they’d appreciate any extra business. (P.S. they sell bags of whole beans!)”

“Dear PoPville,

Around 2 pm Saturday (12/12) downtown in Chinatown right near city tap house penn quarter I was complaining to my roommate about the trump rally downtown. This 6ft tallish guy in his twenties stopped to talk to us (brown hair brown eyes blue sweatshirt I think) while he was on the phone. He said that his friends came into town and they had no idea about the rally downtown and walked into it by accident. I was complaining that I just wanted to go to Anthropologie in peace and he laughed with us. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I moved to a new house across in the district two weeks ago. I put in my request for trash cans as soon as we closed, but haven’t received any cans (and my trash is piling up). So, I called DPW and they said to me on the phone that no one was getting any cans because DC is flat out of them and they had to wait for a shipment to be delivered.

Is anyone else dealing with this, and how long did you have to wait? How does a city run out of trash cans (guess they aren’t so super)!”
