“Dear PoPville,
These people rented an Airbnb next to my building and threw a birthday party with at least a dozen people not social distancing. Super loud.
But that’s not all. They actually lit a damn firepit on a wooden balcony and pushed it into the corner to allow more people outside…moving the flames directly against the wooden bannisters and under the wooden stairs!!!
People on surrounding balconies were telling them to put it out and a drunk girl just kept yelling (without a mask on) “ok Karen! Ok Karen! Ok Karen! Have a good night Karen!”
The fire dept came and made them put it out…and the same girl started yelling AT THE FIREMEN, “you’re ruining my birthday!! Thanks for ruining my birthday!!” She then proceeded to scream obscenities at random balconies. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
The rats are a real problem. One came into my toilet through the pipes today! Not an urban legend!!
I’m in Mt. Pleasant. I was on a call and heard splashing in my bathroom, which was strange. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve been seeing these small, incredible pieces of protest art popping up in Capitol Hill the last few weeks. Signed by “Fearless Girls,” the first one I saw was featuring everyone’s favorite Bunker Baby. That one was on an electrical box in Stanton Park back in October. It’s since been removed. The other one I saw last night at I believe 4th and Constitution, it was about Jefferson and Sally Hemmings. Does anyone have pics of other pieces I might have missed or know anything about the Fearless Girls?” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
My last two visits to the West End branch library have involved secret service and barricades. Apparently, someone who warrants secret service protection has moved into the condos above the library and it is altering use of the library. You no longer can enter the library. You are met on the sidewalk by secret service and staff and assisted there.
Do you know what is going on? Who moved in? Is this permanent or temporary?”

“Dear PoPville,
I read this morning that the Bowser administration is planning to cut funding services to those experiencing homelessness, particularly youth. During a pandemic! During winter! When it has already done far too little for these folks! AND proposed a budget increase for the police and dipped into its emergency funds to give money to businesses! I thought our mayor couldn’t get worse — wrong! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
So this is how my Tuesday started…
And this LEGEND of a postman took the time to salvage my failed mailings and return them to our house! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Tonight was the second time in the last 2-3 weeks that I’ve noticed a napkin tied around around my car’s passenger side door handle while it was street parked in West End on 26th St NW. The first time I noticed it I removed it immediately, but then I noticed a new one again tonight, tied to the same door handle. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m wondering if you’ve heard of any incredibly ridiculous time lags in getting permits in DC for simple home projects. We submitted our permit application for our porch in May and still haven’t received approval/the paper permit. We didn’t use an expediter and I realize we are in a pandemic but 7+ months seems a bit absurd!”

“Dear PoPville,
My pup seems to have torn her CCL, and has been limping on and off for the last 2 weeks. She is a 90 pound german shepherd mix – not overweight, but a big girl. The vet recommended we reduce her weight by a few pounds, and said surgery is the only option for treatment. I would love to hear from PoPville community if anyone else has had to deal with similar issues lately. I have a few questions: (more…)
