“Dear PoPville,
Have you ever heard of a littering fine for what is clearly a stolen package? This was posted to my door. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Our condo association seems to be the only one in the area interpreting the mayor’s current orders to totally prevent the use of rooftop grills. They’re citing the maor’s requirement that, “Any shared equipment should be cleaned and disinfected between users, in addition to being arranged according to physical distancing requirements.” I reached out to the city and they won’t provide clarification beyond what’s printed in the phase 2 order.
Any chance you’d be willing to do a poll of folks living in condos about amenities that have reopened? Seems like we’re the outlier and everyone else has figured out how to make it work within the guidelines.
(For reference from our condo board president…) (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Let folks know that there’s someone on the metro randomly pepper spraying people. He sprayed me right as he was getting off the train so I can’t identify him. I was on either the orange or silver line heading towards Virginia and sitting on the bench near the train door. The door opened at L’enfant Plaza and the guy sprayed me as he was getting off the train. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
My nephew is in town, and he wants a really great souvenir to bring back to a teacher who has been a very meaningful. She loves DC, but has never been… lives in Boone, NC.
Are you aware of any DC souvenirs that can only be acquired in DC?
Something specially and uniquely DC?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.”

“Dear PoPville,
Could you ask for recommendations for a local nutritionist? Looking for health focused NOT weight loss and for someone with real science and medical background. Thank you!”

“Dear PoPville,
Last year in May, I reserved spaces on my street for a moving truck, posted the signs before the required 72 hours, and had them validated by DDOT. The morning of my move, several cars were still parked in the reserved parking spaces. When I called the provided number to tow the cars, I was told that there was a long waiting list and that likely they would not be able to come within the required time frame. I asked to be added to the waitlist but never heard back beyond that. My moving truck had to park far away, increasing the expenses for my move. I was a bit annoyed that I had paid a $55 fee and gone through the trouble of getting the signs printed at the police station during COVID and following all the rules for nothing. So, after seeing some conversations from years ago on PoPville where folks had success getting their reserved parking fees refunded in incidents like this, I contacted different folks at DDOT several times over the past year. I’ve gotten a few responses routing me to different people who can supposedly help me better than the prior contact, but so far, no one has been able to refund my fee or give me an answer as to whether or not that is something they might do.
I had basically resigned myself to the fact that I wasn’t getting that fee back and given up, but I am once again moving in May and am in a quandary. If I knew signs would be enforced, then I would reserve spaces for the moving truck again in the locations where I am moving to and from. However, I am having a hard time considering paying over $100 in fees for these parking signs when the first time it was useless. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
On Tuesday evening 4/6, I was out in Columbia Heights for a walk with my dog Reagan. We were headed South on Sherman Avenue near Columbia Road when we came up to a dog traffic jam on the sidewalk. You and your pup were headed towards us while a couple tried to rein in their dog that was barking at both of ours. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
The median at New York and 1st NW has been a hazard, damaging many cars daily. Cars traveling south on 1st St NW, making a left onto New York ave NW have to deal with this almost invisible flawed median. My first contact with DDOT about this was 2014, to no avail. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Over the past few months, a woman driving a white Lexus mini-SUV has been harassing dog owners in Navy Yard and the Wharf. Both from her vehicle and on foot she has accused dog owners of underfeeding their dogs and even picked up a small dog while it was still leashed with the owner holding its leash and started walking toward her car with the dog. Most recently, after multiple attempts to get my attention while I tried to ignore her, she yelled from her vehicle “Excuse me, I work with dogs and you are underfeeding your dog”. (more…)
