Good news for Starsky & Hutch fans! Junction Vintage thought they’d be closing their U Street location at the end of the month but they’ve signed a new lease through April while their diggs get ready. Updates on the new location when it’s released.

A sources says it it so. Stay tuned for confirmation. Staples closed in DC USA back in March of last year. Here’s who we hoped would take over the space…

Huge growth since we first posted about All In Service DC on December 29th – nice!
From a press release:
“Launched at the end of 2016, All In Service DC organizes over 50 Washington, DC service businesses to donate profits from inauguration weekend to local service organizations. The 50 plus businesses are as diverse as the city, such as new-to-town Momofuku CCDC and longstanding Cafe Saint-Ex. A furniture store, Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & whatnot, and Logan 14 Aveda Salon & Spa have joined too.
“We invite all of DC’s business to join this amazing effort to demonstrate commitment to community,” says Alaina Dyne, All In Service DC co-creator. “We’d love to see the entire DC service industry participate to show our commitment to hospitality and community, when we’re serving hundreds of thousands of visitors. This inauguration weekend, eat and drink in DC for good.”
All In Service DC’s goals are both to fundraise for local service organizations and also to provide an opportunity for service workers throughout the city to contribute to their community, while they are working the inauguration weekend. (more…)

The Outrage’s website says:
“during childhood, limits did not exist. we hosted cooking shows, made chemistry labs in the kitchen, built amusement parks in the backyard, held our own on football and soccer fields, and put on numerous art shows and plays. as grown-ups, we mostly have fun too, filling our days with playful antics, serious conversations, and incessant brainstorming. but adulthood also threw us face-to-face with senseless limitations. and we can’t help but feel outraged.
outraged that on average a woman still makes $0.78 to a white man’s $1.00 – and for black women that number is $0.63 and for hispanic women $0.54.
outraged that stereotypes about women in science are ingrained early.
outraged that fear of sexual assault is all too common and that perpetrators are rarely brought to justice.
outraged that paternal leave is virtually unheard of.
outraged that women-led companies receive a tiny fraction of venture capital funding.
we founded The Outrage as a way to channel our feelings and connect with others who support equality and smash limits, stereotypes, and barriers.

Ah, District Camera are the folks that moved from their Dupont location (1735 Connecticut Ave, NW). Cool:

1300 Connecticut Ave, NW
This is the former Riccardi Clothier space that closed back in March of 2015.
Update on the Jenni Bick “opening in about two weeks” status in Dupont from GTMARCHITECTS:
“GTM Architects, an award-winning residential and commercial architectural firm, recently announced that it designed the first brick and mortar retail space for Jenni Bick Fine Custom Journals at 1300 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. The formerly online only handmade journal business is moving into the Dupont Circle location previously occupied by Riccardi Clothier.

courtesy GTMARCHITECTS
GTM Architects Partner Clare Marino and Project Coordinator Lauren Pacheco worked with owners Jenni and Robby Bick to create a space that accentuates the products, which include personalized, handmade and custom journals, notebooks and albums. Marino and Pacheco kept the organic and natural design aesthetic of the online store by incorporating a neutral, modern décor in the retail space that includes wood shelves, hardwood flooring and light-colored walls. Extensive shelving will showcase an array of colorful merchandise, while freestanding tables and shelves provide a place for seasonal and specialty items. Customers can review the products, select fonts and text for personalization, and watch the embossing process. (more…)
