A reader reports:
“I just stopped in today and was informed by the staff that unfortunately this wonderful place of joy is closing for good. I loved coming here, the staff was always nice expecially the manager. I just thought I’d share with readers, they’re having a 40% off sale and closing their doors for good on Monday at 6 pm. This was the last Godiva in DC left after Union Station & Connecticut Avenue previously closed : ( ”
It’s ok, just think of Uncle Joe.

Updates when we learn what becomes of the cool little building at 3239 M St NW:

511 Florida Ave, NW
Back in 2013 we were sure a new cafe was coming here, a few doors down from the OG Thai Xing. But it’s sat vacant ever since – next up – Electric Cat Scratch Tattoos:

Next to the Atlas Theatre – marking this as a win.

A reader reports:
“I recently noticed that “Tienda La Union,” next to the Red Derby, is shuttering it’s doors. The sign written in Spanish says the store is closing after 30 years in business.”
Ed. Note: I haven’t heard any rumors about who’s taking over but I feel like a business that had been open for 30 years deserves some props and a fond farewell before we start talking replacements… Nevertheless the show must go on so we’ll be sure to update when we learn of the future plans for the space.

14th and Quincy St, NW

Since President Trump took office – at least three CVS stores have closed in DC alone! T-H-R-E-E: 1350 Connecticut Ave, NW (on 19th Street), 15th and K St, NW and now 21st and L. Look to your left and look to your right – at this rate – one of those CVS’ may not be here at the end of the year. Just when I was starting to get on the Gold Emblem bandwagon too. Thanks Trump.
And thanks to Brett Widness for sending word:
“CVS at 21st and L NW has signs up saying it’s closing. #cvspacolypse.”

1540 North Capitol Street, NW at Florida Ave
Thanks to Truxton Circle, DC for tweeting us word:
“I just heard #TruxtonCircle has a new bakery in the works: @SweeterHue, right above @wickedbloom1540. Not open to the public yet @PoPville”
Sweeter Hue’s Facebook says:
“A bakery located in Washington,D.C. proudly serving both sweet and savory baked items that taste unlike any other!”
Stay tuned.

1904 18th Street, NW
From an email:
“Doggy Style is opening a place to board cats just up the street from our store, at 1904 18th St NW. The new place will be called Itty Bitty & Kitty City Pet Resort. We plan to start with luxury boarding for cats only. We are custom building Kitty Condos to house the cats and a Kitty Playground for cats play in when they stay with us.”
They’ll be located in the former Second Affair Consignment Shop and Young D.C. spaces next to the Chocolate House:

Also of note, just up the block another Pet Hotel & Spa, Life of Riley, is coming to 18th Street in the former Sawah Cafe space in Adams morgan:
