A reader reports:

“I recently noticed that “Tienda La Union,” next to the Red Derby, is shuttering it’s doors. The sign written in Spanish says the store is closing after 30 years in business.”

Ed. Note: I haven’t heard any rumors about who’s taking over but I feel like a business that had been open for 30 years deserves some props and a fond farewell before we start talking replacements… Nevertheless the show must go on so we’ll be sure to update when we learn of the future plans for the space.

The last time I was at Mezcalero, the bartender mentioned their planned expansion into that space.

I still think they should work on serving the few tables they have first!

This block needs a coffee shop in the worst way.

    • Have you had the coffee at Little Coco’s?

      • Guillermo Brown

Yes, I have. I love Little Coco’s but a restaurant moonlighting as a coffee shop ain’t the same as a proper coffee shop. How about Lost Sock Coffee, the folks popping up at Timber? Amiright? Great Streets Grant money available!

There is/was talk about a development on 14th and Spring to bring in a coffee shop.

FYI – “La Union” is one of the 14 departments (states) of El Salvador, on the southern border with Honduras. Very beautiful terrain with beaches, volcanoes, islands, and the boat-friendly Gulf of Fonseca. To anyone looking for a vacation off-the-beaten path, I highly recommend taking the trip.

COFFEE SHOP! COFFEE SHOP! COFFEE SHOP! That is the thing that upper 14th needs most. I’d also a dig a sandwich spot like Straw Stick & Brick or Sundevich.
