Oh no!!! Thanks to all who messaged us the Washington Business Journal article by Alex Koma:

“It’s official: Kramerbooks owner Steve Salis says he’s ready to move the hybrid bookshop-cafe out of its Dupont Circle home.

He doesn’t have a new location to announce yet, but this would mark the end of Kramer’s 44-year run in the neighborhood.”

STAY TUNED.

From Ice Cream Jubilee:

“Ice Cream Jubilee is celebrating May, Asian American Heritage Month, with an assortment of Asian American inspired flavors, available for nationwide shipping, local delivery, and in-store pick up. With every 5-pint package of ice cream purchased, Ice Cream Jubilee will make a donation to nonprofits dedicated to combating the rise in Anti-Asian hate that has spiked since the Coronavirus crisis. Oh my goodness a magnificent, and desperately needed, update about Saint Vincent coming to the old union drinkery/sundevich space at 3212-3216 Georgia Ave NW in the Park View. Co-owner Peyton Sherwood (along with partner Frederick Uku) tells me that they’ll be opening up a retail shop there in the next few weeks (before a proper opening is suitable.) We can expect the space to feature a wine list that highlights small producers from all over the world plus cheese and charcuterie. People will be able to pick out their favorites online a la carte or buy baskets they put together. You can follow their progress on their Instagram page here. And of course we’ll update when the retail shop is live and of course when it’s safe to do so, when the proper opening occurs.

Check out a taste from that sweet window at night too: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I received a strange email from the Aveda salon in Georgetown that said, “Following the government guidelines, we will be able to reopen our salon on May 16th”.

I thought Bowser has yet to detail if she will extend the May 15 Stay-at-Home order and what our DC phased openings will look like…Did I miss something? If so, I hope I’m not the only one concerned that we’re reopening while our hospitalizations keep rising.”

Ed. Note: The email from Aveda seems very very premature. It is highly unlikely given the current state of affairs that we’ll see a reopening starting this Saturday. Of course I’ll update with the official word as soon as more info is given from the Mayor’s office.

Thanks to all who forwarded us the email from Aveda:

“We hope this finds you and your loved ones well and safe. Following the government guidelines, we will be able to reopen our salon in Georgetown on May 16th with one priority: the safety of our team and visitors

Therefore, all the necessary precautions have been taken to ensure a serene and pleasant experience in our salon:

“Dear PoPville,

For the past 14 or so years, my parents and I have gone to Hu’s Shoes in Georgetown on Mother’s Day so my mom can pick out a pair of shoes after brunch. We stumbled upon the store years ago, and have kept up the tradition ever since, rain or shine. The guys always sit down to catch up on what’s happened the past year, and patiently help as my mom tries on every pair of flats and my dad riddles them with dad jokes. We look forward to it every year.

Today, knowing we wouldn’t be able to come in, I reached out by email to let the guys know that we are thinking of them and will be in as soon as social distancing regulations ease up. (more…)
