In May of 2013 we heard the big news that Tadich Grill would be coming to the former Ten Penh space which has been  closed since 2011. A liquor license placard posted out front says:

“Restaurant serving American food. Occupancy Load 336, Seating 222, Sidewalk Café Seating 54, Summer Garden Seating 27

Hours of operation are listed as Sunday through Thursday: 7am – 2am, Friday and Saturday: 7am – 3am.

You can see Tadich Grill’s original San Francisco menu here. Their website says:

“Tadich Grill is essentially a seafood restaurant and has been for over 160 years. Twice a day (and sometimes all afternoon), the place bustles as waiters serve aromatic dishes bearing last night’s catch, broiled, sautéed, or grilled. It is noisy, yes. But unlike some popular spots, it’s not so noisy that you can’t have a conversation with your companions. If you’d been to Tadich Grill a century ago, it would hardly have looked any different. Back then, customers left happy and returned frequently, just like they still do. ”

And looks like construction is well underway:

The 1800 Cafe closed their little spot at 1800 N St, NW back in Oct. 2011. Finally some phenomenal news as to who’s taking over the space – one of my favorites Surfside! This is the little space right next to the recently opened STK Steakhouse on the N Street side.

Surfside currently has a restaurant in Glover Park at 2444 Wisconsin Ave, NW.  You can see their menu here. Their website says:

“Surfside is a fresh breeze on the restaurant scene where you can get great grilled tacos, salads and entrees inspired by the beach cuisines of the world.

Surfside is all about laid-back, simple preparations with grilled steak, fish, shrimp and chicken with a wide array of fresh vegetables served on a colorful plate in a bright open space. Perfect for a quick bite or a gathering with friends – great for families and kids. Discover our rooftop deck and the authentic bold flavors of our fresh-made salsas, moles, curries and the best guacamole in town. Enjoy a frozen margarita or tropical blended drink with your meal or choose from an eclectic mix of international beers and wines.”

Progress continues at the Filipino restaurant coming to the former El Rinconcito Deportivo space on 11th Street between Kenyon and Lamont. It’s gonna be called Chikiting Ed. Note: Owner Nick Pimentel says Chikiting is just the trade name, no official name yet and a liquor license placard posted out front says:

“We will be an upscale neighborhood restaurant serving Filipino cuisine. Total Occupancy
Load 15
.”

Hours of operation are listed as Sunday through Thursday: 10am – 2am, Friday and Saturday: 10am – 3am.

Thanks to a reader for sending word:

“Looks like GSA found at least one tenant for the commercial space in their newly renovated headquarters. The sign is on the NW corner of the 18th & E intersection. No dates yet, but I’ll definitely stop in when it opens. For the uninitiated, Which Wich is like a better combination of Subway and Potbelly.”

Anyone ever try Which Wich before? You can see their menu here. For those who’ve tried ’em how would you rank them in the current sandwich scene?
