A reader reports:

“Just got an email from Groupon that my voucher to Bistro La Bonne (the re-opened one on 14th and Chapin), which was set to expire in April, is only valid through the 19th of this month, at which point the business is closing. Their website and facebook don’t say anything about a closing.”

La Bonne Bistro’s website says:

“Chef Daniel Labonne of the Embassy of France, has partnered with CREME to create a warm and inviting neighborhood bistro with authentic French and Belgian cuisine that will make you want to return again and again.

He takes over dinner while CREME concentrates on delighting patrons on weekends with their mouthwatering southern fare brunch & bottomless mimosas. This unique space sharing keep things interesting with new menu items and specials. It’s all about balance: a space nice enough to make you feel at home, a warm welcome you’d expect from a friend, the best service possible for every person who walks through the door, great food and good wine without pretense, keep the conversation flowing.

At La Bonne Bistro, every dish is created using only the freshest, finest ingredients. You’ll thoroughly enjoy whatever you choose from the scrumptious menu. So checking back will ensure you discover new tastes.”

Updates when more is known.

From an email:

“Since opening Slash Run we have done two events with the Soldier’s Home – one at the Soldier’s Home for a happy hour and one at Slash as a fundraiser for them.

We loved doing both and it got us to thinking about how much more we should get involved and supportive of the community as a whole.

So, in 2016 we’re starting to have fundraiser nights at Slash Run for any non-profit, arts or theater organizations, food banks, etc. If people are interested in participating they can email me at [email protected].

Here are the details:
Sunday-Thursday evening/night
We promote/they promote
15% of Sales from that night go to the organization (they get the benefit of whatever sales we would have naturally done)
Pretty simple

We’ve done this up at Sidebar over the years and it has been great.

Also, starting tonight BURGERS ARE HALF PRICE ON MONDAYS AT SLASH RUN!

All night at the bar and after 7pm in the dining room. Must purchase a drink. Not available for take out.”

Huge score for Van Ness. Not a sentence I think I’ve ever written before. So I gotta say it again, huge score for Van Ness and the new Park Van Ness building. Actually two big scores. First from a press release Soapstone Market:

“Tracy Stannard and John Fielding, creators of Broad Branch Market in Chevy Chase, DC are excited to announce a new concept in Van Ness delivering Spring/Summer 2016. Soapstone Market, an urban grocery and bar with indoor and outdoor cafe seating, will feature prepared foods, grab and go items, baked goods, butcher, seafood and deli counters, an espresso and coffee bar, a beer and wine bar and a fast casual concept where customers can pick from daily offerings to dine in or take away. Like BBM it will be an old time marketplace with modern influences providing a vibrant atmosphere for the local community to gather.

Located in the Park Van Ness building at 4465 Connecticut Ave. NW.”

The Washington Business Journal reports:

“Chef Fabio Trabocchi is betting on another D.C. spot. The chef and his wife, Maria Trabocchi, have signed a lease to open a pasta-focused restaurant called Sfoglina on Connecticut Avenue NW near the Van Ness Metro station on the Red Line.”

A reader reports:

“Just wanted to share this because I’m VERY EXCITED: a friend was telling me that the owners of Menomale are opening up an Italian deli/fresh pasta to go place a few doors down from the restaurant [2711 12th Street, NE]. I was skeptical at first because it’s not the first time I’ve been told something was opening up in that space, but they’ve started doing renovations so it looks like it’s actually happening!”

Ed. Note: Back in June of last year we first heard word of Menomale’s pasta plans. Glad to hear it’s moving forward – updates as they get closer to opening.
