“Dear PoPville,

Spotted what looks like refrigeration/cooking equipment going into the space next to Fro Zen Yo in Columbia Heights but no obvious signage.. Anyone know what’s opening there?”

This is none other than another Jimmy John’s which is coming to the former Julia’s Empanada space.

Ed. Note: Jimmy John’s 14th and U Street location should open this week. Seems Jimmy John’s has fully absorbed the great Quiznos vacuum of ’14…

Thanks to Gregory Hudson ‏for sending word: “Oh uh, well that stinks.”

That was fast. Melt Shop (grilled cheese) opened in the former Energy Kitchen space back in Feb. 2015.

And before Energy Kitchen it was formerly home to Asian Bistro with one of our favorite typos of all time:

From a press release:

“One of U Street’s favorite outdoor gathering spots, Vinoteca has just opened its lively front patio and charming backyard Plaza bar for Washingtonians looking to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Reminscent of a European courtyard, Vinoteca’s just-reopened Plaza offers an extensive variety of rosé wines for the season, new outdoor grill menu, refreshing spring cocktails, and its popular oyster-shell bocce court.

“Dear PoPville,

I just walked by the Amorini Panini and someone said that it is closed “indefinitely.” Their website is down. Have you heard anything about this?”

Ed. Note: Facebook hasn’t been updated since Oct. 2015 and Twitter since February. Their phone number rings without going to voicemail. Amorini Panini opened their first brick and mortar spot back in 2010. They previously closed one on 18th Street downtown. Updates when more is known.
