From a press release:

“Get your appetite ready because Summer Restaurant Week is only a month away! Reservations are now available on the Restaurant Week website at some of the city’s most notable restaurants. Organized by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), this year’s event brings prix fixe menus from restaurants across the District to diners for a week of culinary tastes and adventures.

A full list of the 250 participating restaurants from all around the D.C.-metro area is available on the Restaurant Week website.”

and I’m curious since folks always have strong feelings as to whether it’s a good deal or not so let’s take a poll:

ardeo bardeo

Finally some good restaurant news for Cleveland Park (RIP Palena) from the Washington Post:

“Expect to see kati rolls (wraps, such as one with pork), pao (a kind of sandwich on a soft buttery bun) and kabobs (such as pathar gosht with lamb) among the offerings. Also: uttapam, a fermented rice pancake, and bhel puri, a sweet and savory snack with raw mangoes, lentils and puffed rice. Prices will range from $9 to $14.

Bindaas will occupy less than half of the current Ardeo + Bardeo space on Connecticut Avenue NW. The new venture will seat 50 diners…”

Updates when they open.

But first the facts and the menu:

ANXO Menu (PDF)

“ANXO is a nickname for Basajaun, the mythological creature that taught the Basques ironworking, sheepherding and agricultural practices before disappearing back into the woods. Similar to the Sasquatch, Yeti, Bigfoot, and other “men of the woods”, ANXO is a bridge between the natural world, from which it came, and the modern world it helped create.

Opening date: W ednesday, July 13th, 5PM

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday: 5:00PM 12:00AM F riday & Saturday: 5:00PM 1:00AM
Monday Closed
Kitchen closes one hour earlier

Owners: Sam Fitz, Rachel Fitz, Cooper Sheehan, Tim Prendergast, and Alex & Sara Vallcorba

ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar aims to reinvigorate interest in traditional cider, one of the MidAtlantic’s oldest drinks. A focus on close relationships with local and international cidermakers is central to the ANXO mission, and will enable ANXO to maintain an unparalleled and highly curated selection of cider. ANXO will produce its own cider onpremises and at a second DC location opening this winter. Natural fermentation in oak barrels and a focus on heirloom apple varieties native to the MidAtlantic will lead to a limited product that is notably different from the vast offerings ANXO will present from around the world.
ANXO will honor the Basque culinary traditions of honesty, simplicity, and quality by showcasing local producers’ best efforts. The menu will feature pintxos (Basque small bites made to be eaten with cider) as well as larger dishes meant for sharing. In addition to serving housemade cider, ANXO will have an ambitious beverage program featuring more than 20 ciders on draft poured through a custombuilt draft system designed to showcase cider as the producers intended. The extensive beverage program will have an additional 16 draft lines dedicated to beer and cocktails, as well as a tightly focused wine program highlighting the lesserknown wines of the Basque Country and surrounding areas.”

Ed. Note: This was once the planned space for Mercadito.

From a press release:

“Washington, D.C. chef and restaurateur Mike Isabella announces Arroz, a Southern Spanish and Tangier-inspired restaurant to open in the Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C in the Mount Vernon Square neighborhood in early 2017. Located at 901 Massachusetts Ave NW, Arroz will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, as well as weekend brunch, and will focus on the cuisines of Valencia, Andalusia and Portugal, incorporating dishes from Tangier along with other North African influences. Arroz is also one of the 10-concepts planned for Isabella Eatery opening in Tysons Galleria later in 2017.

“My favorite thing about dining in Spain is the incredible variety of the cuisine,” Isabella said. “Spaniards have strong regional identity and it shows in their food culture. You can enjoy paella in Valencia, then drive down the coast a bit and experience completely different flavors and ingredients. Not many U.S. restaurateurs focus on Southern Spain, Northern Africa, and Portugal. Those regions of the world heavily influence each other’s art, architecture and food, and those unique flavors are exactly what we are aiming to capture at Arroz.”
