From a press release:

“On Thursday, May 11, Bar Dupont (1500 New Hampshire Avenue, NW) will kick off its weekly music series “Dupont Live,” showcasing local artists from across the region and ringing in summer with a special new patio menu that includes innovative cocktails and a dozen different rosés.

Each Thursday at Dupont Live, a different surprise musical act from the D.C. metro area will hit the stage for a set from 6:30 to 9:30pm, as the summer concert series returns for another year. And, rather than revealing a calendar of musicians ahead of time, the Dupont Live lineup will be all about the element of surprise with a new unannounced act performing each week. (more…)

A reader reports:

The Shaw Bijou has a handwritten sign in the front window with “For deliveries, please call xxx-xxx-xxxx. French Quarter Brasserie”.

FQB’s website says they are opening in Shaw DC in May 2017.”

You can see Fairfax’s supper menu here and drinks menu here.

Update: Thanks to a reader for spotting the proposed opening date – May 29th!

Thanks to Justin for the update on Choong Man who has taken over the former Khan’s space. I’m also excited to learn that not only will there be Seafood but there will also be Crab. Very good news indeed!!

In all seriousness, anyone know the early word? They’ve gotten some pretty positive reviews on yelp – can anyone confirm? Justin writes:

“They do all the cooking right up front, then there’s a whole fish counter like at a market, and then a sports bar in the back. I tried the traditional method Korean fried chicken and their “snow” onion chicken, both were pretty good but way smaller in size than Kochix and significantly lacking in the crunch department.”

Flashback to the famed Seafood & Crab at 1936 14th Street, NW (what is now Tico, approximately) in 2009:

BREAKING(ish)

Now this is curious. Back in February a liquor license placard was posted for Phoenix Restaurant Lounge but after the Oppadak signage was posted it seemed that had passed. Perhaps not. A reader reports the Phoenix neon signage that sprouted Saturday night (see photo above.) Perhaps it’ll be party (Saturday) nights and Baked Oven Chicken days? STAY TUNED.

Thanks to the owners for sending a quick update on Rustik’s replacement in Bloomingdale – Tyber Creek Wine Bar and Kitchen:

“We will be opening next Thursday, May 4th at 5:00pm – our typical hours will be Monday – Friday 5:00 pm to close and Saturday & Sunday 11:00am to close. But our first weekend we will be Thursday – Saturday 5:00pm to close and Sunday 11:00am – close.

We are really excited to be part of the Bloomingdale community and hope to provide a comfortable neighborhood restaurant with wood fired food, a curated wine program and seasonal beers & cocktails. Our Chef, Kerry Tate, has developed an innovative but approachable menu with dishes such as roast half chicken over bread salad, wood oven mussels in tomato fennel broth and a lamb flatbread topped with arugula salad- to name a few of my favorites.”

anxo
300 Florida Ave, NW

From an email:

“This Sunday 4/30, ANXO will be hosting a Calçotada from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Calçotada is a Catalan festival and celebration of calçot onions. On our patio, we will be grilling unfathomable amounts of onions, which are wrapped in newspaper as they are grilled. Guests pull away the charred exteriors, dip the onions in romesco, and slurp them up. The onions will also be served with grilled pan con tomate.

In addition to ANXO’s extensive cider menu and select porrónes, ANXO will be holding free Txotx demonstrations on the top of each hour through the event. Txotx is the Basque celebration of cider, and revolves around catching cider straight from the barrel.

The cider poured for this Txotx will be ANXO Sidra Natural #1. This is the first cider fermented in house at our 300 Florida Avenue location. In addition to being poured for the Txotx, 120 bottles will be available for sale at the event.

This event is a special one for ANXO. It combines Catalan culinary traditions native to our chef, Alex Vallcorba, and Basque cider traditions that drive our cider list. (more…)
