9th and Q Street, NW

A reader reports:

The Shaw Bijou has a handwritten sign in the front window with “For deliveries, please call xxx-xxx-xxxx. French Quarter Brasserie”.

FQB’s website says they are opening in Shaw DC in May 2017.”

You can see Fairfax’s supper menu here and drinks menu here.

Update: Thanks to a reader for spotting the proposed opening date – May 29th!

This concept seems far more sustainable. Yay!

  • Truxton Thomas

The food menu looks promising, except for the lack of a fried oyster po’ boy. But otherwise I like the options.

    • GMFQBKen

Truxton, thanks for the support. FYI – We do have Fried Oysters, both as a Basket, and as a PoBoy. Also, on our Gulf Seafood Platter. Hope to see you on the 29th of May. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

I think a traditional french bistro would do far better

  • MadMax

Stupid name. It’s like calling a restaurant Harlem. Please don’t name places after neighborhoods specific to a certain city if you’re not in that city.

    • AMDC

Agreed! There was a food truck out today called Brooklyn Sandwiches or something. Serving $10 pastrami sandwiches. Just no.

      • jkdc

it is a kosher food truck, which helps justify the prices but not necessarily the name.

    • Anonthony

      Swampoodle is another good example.

    • Victoria

The owner is from the area so makes sense to me

      • MadMax

So you think it would make sense if someone from DC opened up “Dupont Circle Bistro” in Kansas City?

        • ExWalbridgeGuy

Good lord, who cares? That’s a perfectly acceptable name for a restaurant.

  • ET

Menu isn’t bad except for hushpupies. I never had a hushpuppy in NOLA growing up…. Now it would be nice if they added maque choux even though that isn’t NOLA so much as south Louisiana. This one I may try…..

    • GMFQBKen

Thank, ET for the comments. We do have a Shrimp Maque Choux as an option on our Choix de Deux entree, and we serve a basic corn Maque Choux as a side with our Smoked 1/2 Chicken and Dirty Rice entree.
Hope to see you on the 29th of May.

Reminded me of Tom Sarris’s Orleans House. Was a favorite for birthday dinners and had a lovely women’s rest room.

  • MtP

I clicked on the menu expecting to be disappointed, but it looks pretty good and quite reasonable. If the food is good and they can capture some NOLA vibe, I think this could be a winner.

  • Modwop

If they can channel the menu quality and attitude of the LONG AGO departed New Orleans Emporium in Adams-Morgan, I’m at the bar for some Dixie beer and popcorn crawfish…

    • GMFQBKen

We will have Abita beer selections. Otherwise, I hope you’ll find yourself at home with us!

Darn. Allergic to shellfish and so. Much. Shellfish. I know this is a Nee Orleans thing!! Otherwise glad to welcome them to the neighborhood!!
