“Dear PoPville,

I wonder if you’ve got any info on what is happening with L’Enfant Café in Adams Morgan. It has looked close each time I’ve walked past it for at least a week. Also, it’s that time of year when they would usually be gearing up for their Bastille Day party in a very visible way. I hope they aren’t kaput!”

Holy crap, for better or for worse, the Adams Morgan of yesteryear has almost completely been erased. A peek in the window on Sunday:

On July 1st they updated their hours on Facebook: (more…)

Anyone take a taste? Check out Farmbird’s Menu (PDF) What’s the early word?

“At Farmbird, we want to change the way that people think about chicken. By combining the rare pleasure of a perfectly roasted chicken with the bold flavors we’ve come to love, we hope to put a new spin on the nourishing, sustainable food we grew up eating.

Our menu items are prepared from scratch daily, using fresh ingredients and classic techniques. No freezers, no fryers, no microwaves. We’re committed to serving only the highest quality, never-frozen chicken. Our birds are raised humanely on an all-vegetarian diet without growth hormones or antibiotics on regional farms in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.”

5501 14th Street, NW via Swampoodle’s facebook

Last week we finally learned who was likely taking over the old Swampoodle space at 14th and Colorado. Now it is no longer likely – it’s confirmed!! And what’s better than one of the owners of Boundary Stone, Matt Croke, being involved? One of the partners in DC Reynolds, Tony Kowaleski, is also involved!! Tony and Matt have each lived in the neighborhood about 8 years so given that and their bona fides, this will surely be a legit neighborhood gathering place. They hope to open this Fall so standby for many many more details including the new name soon. STAY TUNED.

Thanks to all who messaged us about the original Mandu.

Update from owner of Mandu:

“We closed early last night due to the holiday and the fire seemed to happen shortly after midnight or so. Still trying to figure out what happened but it was not kitchen/gas related, and it was contained to half of the first floor. The fire department out of precaution and protocol had to bust through the windows upstairs, which is why it seems like it was a two story fire but it was not.

Thankfully nobody was injured or hurt. The speed and execution of the DC Emergency Services (Fire, MPD, etc) was outstanding. Our focus now is to figure out a plan for our staff as we start to plan how to remodel and open as soon as possible.”
