Well this is bonkers. The Washington Post reports:
“Red Apron Burger Bar, the fast-casual spot that introduced local sourcing to the traditionally opaque world of hamburger patties, will shut down its storefront off Dupont Circle on Sunday, less than nine months after it debuted to much fanfare. Neighborhood Restaurant Group and Red Apron Butcher, partners in the venture, will relaunch the concept Tuesday at EatBar on Barracks Row for both delivery and dine-in.”

Thanks to the folks from Quara for letting us know that they’ve opened. Their website says:
“Quara Ethiopian Restaurant is named for the ancient civilization where the modern-day country of Ethiopia is situated – and for the city of Quara, Ethiopia. True to our roots, we prepares traditional recipes from our homeland. Your food is served by first- and-second generation Ethiopians in Washington. Our culture is represented throughout by posters, paintings and music from Africa.
And our menu features many traditional Ethiopian favorites, including Kitfo, a raw beef dish that one that many Westerners are reluctant to try, but then find quite enjoyable!”

Thanks to Andrew for sending:
“Looks like DCity Smokehouse is doing a major overhaul of their outdoor seating area. Installing previous paving, minor landscaping, and tree planting. Per the Bartender, it won’t be open for a while, “probably for next spring”.
Based on the tree protection, E&S controls, and Miss Utility markings dated 8/28, it looks like they will break ground any day.
There is a plan hanging on the wall inside. Too bad we have to wait but should be worth it!”

It’s official!! El Rinconcito II finally reopening after suffering a terrible fire nearly a year ago. After Thursday’s news that Taqueria Distrito Federal had closed their 14th Street location this is welcome news indeed.
Kevin sums up the feeling of many nicely: “At least 2017 isn’t a total loss.”
