SAF reports:

“Headed out today with a friend to have lunch at the 14th Street location of TDF. We ran into Luis on the street as we were walking up, wondering why the place looked closed. He’s closed this location, leaving only Kennedy Street. Their lease was up, and the rent was going up too much for him to afford.

He is planning to stay on Kennedy Street though – made the comment that he’s glad he got in early, as the prices are really rising up there too!”

Gregory Gabriel Kavadias via Facebook

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I didn’t see this covered on your blog but thought it should be since the Greek Spot has been such an institution/go-to for numerous years in the U street area.

We were pretty taken aback/saddened by the news of Gregory Gabriel Kavadias‘ passing, when we got takeout from greek spot tonite for first time in a few months. They had a sign up honoring the life of Gregory. I remember him from the very beginnings of their opening. Beyond being the purveyor of some delicious food, he was always super personable and it was nice to chat with him about various happenings, from food to family to music. (more…)

Thanks to all who sent messages about this disappointing incident from the Washington Post yesterday:

“”When it came time for dessert, we asked for one sundae with two spoons,” Gage said. Their server [at Prime Rib] “said he would bring it in two separate dishes. He said ‘It wouldn’t look right with two gentlemen eating out of the same sundae. It doesn’t go with the ambiance of the restaurant.’

“I cannot believe that a waiter would have ever said anything like that,” [Prime Rib’s general manager, James] MacLeod said. “There’s no way we would condone anything remotely like this.””
