Godzilla Descends on Shaw, “Japanese-themed sushi” can’t too be far behind now

Thanks to Nate for sending: “Saw some workers milling about this morning and they added a new mural! Wonder if it will be another restaurant haunted by the ghost of Shaw Bijou…”

Back in June we learned the new restaurant would be called Zeppelin from the owners of  Chaplin’s down the block.

“A restaurant that will serve Japanese-themed sushi. The licensee is requesting a Sidewalk Café with seating for 60 patrons. They are also requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment indoors only. Interior seating for 99, with a Total Occupancy Load of 122.”

Beef n Bread Closed in Chinatown

Thanks to Tommy for sending word. Beef n Bread opened back in September 2015 (anyone remember the old video store?). Hopefully The Washington Post’s Tim Carman is doing OK. The owner tells me that he sold to Can Yurdagul the owner behind Sushi Capitol and Sushi Ogawa so stay tuned for some sorta Sushi concept. Not clear if plans are still for Poke or not. Updates as the new spot gets closer to opening.

Oh No, Eckington’s Awesome Yang Market is Closing Saturday

“After a lot of thought we have decided to close Yang Market; our last day will be Saturday 12/8.

When we made the decision to buy Yang two years ago we wanted to make it a place for everyone in the neighborhood to get the things they need and I think we were successful in doing so. Yang has truly been a labor of love but I’m ready to spend more time with friends and family and remember what everyone looks like. (more…)

“I am pleased to share with you some new developments regarding the AU-owned property at 4200 Wisconsin Avenue, NW. The university has signed leases with both Surfside restaurant and the Broadcasters Child Development Center, local businesses that will help strengthen AU’s ties to the D.C. community.

As was announced previously, Surfside restaurant will open their third D.C. location this spring in the space formerly occupied by Firelake Grill. The Broadcasters Child Development Center (BCDC) will also move in during the coming months. (more…)

Pizzeria Paradiso’s 5th Location Opened Today

“The fifth location of Pizzeria Paradiso will open for business on Monday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. in Washington, DC’s Spring Valley neighborhood at 4850 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. Credited with introducing the Washington area to Neapolitan-style pizza more than 25 years ago, chef and owner Ruth Gresser’s latest outpost will boast a DC-centric beer and cider list from beverage director Drew McCormick. Eric Gronning of Gronning Architects designed the 179-seat restaurant including the largest outdoor space of all the pizzeria’s locations. (more…)
