Last week a reader wrote in warning “A quintessential DC restaurant is close to closing”. The next day on the Cleveland Park listserv ar resident wrote:

“Dino’s is closing sometime in September. Dean made the decision to close in part because the business is struggling and in part because of his health. The food is still good, so stop by this summer.” (more…)

“Today, Matchbox announces a July 3 opening for its newest location, a 4,360-square-foot space at 750 E Street NW in Washington, D.C. The homegrown chain recently closed its original Chinatown restaurant at 713 H Street NW to welcome the Penn Quarter arrival, which is located just three blocks away and boasts a 28-seat sidewalk patio in addition to 125 seats indoors. Fueled by its investment funding from Thompson Hospitality, Matchbox will continue brand-wide growth in the region with stores slated to open in Bethesda, Md. later this summer and in Reston, Va. in early 2020. I am writing to you to get some help to save Dino’s Grotto! This family owned DC restaurant makes the best farm to table Italian dishes in the city and boast an impressive wine menu! Unfortunately they are having trouble competing with big name chefs and restaurants. They are the go to Italian restaurant in Shaw/Logan circle and continually feature fresh seasonal farm ingredients in every dish. The owner Dean goes out of his way to travel to farms for locally sourced meat and vegetables while simultaneously maintaining relationships with Italian vinters to get great deals on rate Italian wines.
