From a press release:

“The Pig, longtime Logan Circle restaurant from EatWellDC, has reopened after a 3-month Covid hiatus as a reinvented version of its former self, according to principal David Winer. Its new menu, created by Executive Chef Shabier Bahramy, turns its “Nose to Tail” higher end focus into a moderately priced BBQ concept. “Recognizing a need in the market for affordable, great BBQ, we decided to jump in with both feet.” says Winer. SUCCOTASH opened to great acclaim back in September 2017.

Thanks to G. for passing on:

“Dear SUCCOTASH Penn Quarter Guests,

We have made the decision to close our SUCCOTASH Penn Quarter restaurant for the summer, effective this Monday, July 6th.

Unfortunately, the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington DC has become a ghost town. Storefronts remain boarded up, tourism is negligible, the Capital One Arena is without games or concerts, theaters are without shows, hotels without occupancy and officeworkers remain at home…all for the foreseeable future. With little traffic, there is insufficient business to sustain our team. We will return in the Fall and are optimistic that our neighborhood vibrancy returns with us. (more…)

From a press release:

“Just in time for the 4th of July weekend, The Imperial will open its stunning two-tier rooftop for safe dining, on Friday, July 3. Debuting for the first time since the restaurant’s grand opening in November 2019, The Imperial will also unveil a brand new summer food and cocktail menu, and rooftop “Tower Hour” happy hour. The Adams Morgan dining destination will then open its indoor dining room and raw bar with a newly-arranged safely-distanced floorplan on Wednesday, July 8.

The Imperial has taken extensive precautions in line with DC health and safety guidelines, including safely-distanced tables, mask policies and stringent cleaning procedures, plus complimentary sanitizer stations throughout, to ensure the safest enjoyable dining experience for all: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

One of the old pastry chefs that worked at China Chilcano by José Andrés got furloughed and she never got any help from unemployment so she opened her own business. A little taqueria. They’re currently popping up at little beast in Chevy chase with hopes of getting their own space. Her food is delicious. They’re popping up at little beast everyday! And also offering margarita deliveries to the whole dc area!” (more…)

Thanks to Ed for passing on the note from owner Carlie Steiner:

“Hey neighbors, I’m moving out of DC

I’m sure some may have heard that Pom Pom (once Himitsu) will not be reopening. We tried, but for many reasons, will not be able to open our doors again. Safety was always my number one priority, and even if we had the funds today, I still wouldn’t be okay putting my staff back to work in that capacity. (more…)

Back in May we heard some faulty scuttlebutt about the Line Hotel possibly not reopening, which their manager quickly refuted and the good news is that they’ve reopened today:

“The LINE DC

COVID -19 UPDATE: We are now open and our top priority is the health and safety of our guests and employees. We are following the guidance of health authorities and government requirements to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable experience for all.”

Last week Eater DC reported:

“A Rake’s Progress, the high-priced, local-sourcing Mid-Atlantic restaurant that brought James Beard Award-winning chef Spike Gjerde to D.C., has permanently closed after two and a half years of business on the top floor of the trendy Line hotel in Adams Morgan.”

Fortunately The LINE DC still reports:

“With two restaurants, a rooftop bar, and a coffee shop (see also: in-room delivery), the LINE DC offers dining experiences at every hour of the day.

Erik Bruner-Yang’s lobby-situated Brothers And Sisters and his Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Spoken English take cues from around the globe.”

Westbrook Partners and MRP Realty (MRP), developers and managers of commercial, residential, mixed-use and industrial real estate across the Mid-Atlantic region, along with Baltimore-based Cana Development (CANAdev), food and retail asset management experts, announce more details behind the newest restaurants coming to Western Market. The new food hall, first announced in February, will revive the original historic marketplace at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, D.C.

“We continue to be inspired by the resiliency of restaurant owners, given the current retail environment,” said Tim Hill, Vice President of Investments, MRP Realty. “At Western Market, we welcome our roster of local, small business owners who reflect the kaleidoscope of DC’s culturally-rich food scene.”

The original Western Market was constructed in 1802 as one of three original markets in Architect Pierre L’Enfant’s blueprint for the city. Located in the heart of the Foggy Bottom neighborhood adjacent to George Washington University, Western Market will feature a dynamic line up of vendors, offering both locals and visitors a modern culinary destination that reflects the diverse and resilient community of Washington, D.C.
