Thanks to Drew for sending: “Bummer to see the Airedale isn’t coming back, but happy to see this sorry block of 14th won’t be completely empty. There’s a football, baseball, and soccer all in each star of their logo above the door.”

Updates as we learn more.

When we posted about the Chipotle closing in Dupont, a couple readers responded:

“Looks like the one in Chinatown is closed too. Not sure if it’s permanent or not.”

“Chipotle in Gallery Place is now closed down from what I’m hearing”

The Gallery Place/Chinatown location is still listed on their website but closed all days. Ed. Note: Gotta give respect for keeping the name Chiptole MCI – some old school respect!! Updates as we learn more.

1819 7th Street, NW

From a press release:

“The collaborative kitchen space occupied by local chicken soup brand Prescription Chicken welcomes new partners, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken and Saya Salteña. Located at 1819 7th Street, NW the flexible kitchen space has helped small businesses pool resources and share expenses while expanding their reach during the COVID-19 pandemic. On January 26, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken will begin serving their signature doughnuts, fried chicken and sandwiches, while also offering the popular made-to-order cookies from their ghost kitchen business, Satellite Sandwiches. Orders from Astro Doughnuts, Prescription Chicken and Saya Salteña are available for pickup-up and delivery through their respective websites as well as DC-To GoGo (Saya only), DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates and UberEats.

In September 2020, Prescription Chicken took their retail and delivery-only food brand into the storefront, giving the brand a physical space to serve soup and fulfill pick-up orders, while also expanding its delivery radius, which is often set by third party apps. Although the space was larger than Prescription Chicken needed, the team saw an opportunity to partner with other businesses looking to grow opportunities during the pandemic. In December, another woman-owned small business, Saya Salteña joined the collaborative kitchen selling filled Bolivian pastries known as salteñas. Together, the three brands are excited to offer the immediate neighborhood a variety of comfort food options, while widening their delivery radius to other parts of the city.

“As independent small businesses, we are so excited to support one another while expanding our presence here in the District of Columbia,” the three owners said in a joint statement. “It’s no secret that restaurants and food businesses have faced challenging times since the start of COVID, but we are a resilient industry and look forward to growing our businesses and reaching a wider audience with our diverse and eclectic comfort food offerings.”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser released the following statement on the Reopen Washington, DC Alcohol Act, which was filed with the Council of the District of Columbia. The legislation proposes several innovative approaches to help rebuild the District’s economy by providing businesses and patrons with expanded opportunities; bringing essential services, including new full-service grocery stores, to Wards 7 and 8; and maintaining the city’s reputation as a top destination to live, work, and dine out.

“I have charged my Administration with developing bold, innovative solutions to ensure our businesses and the workers they employ can thrive beyond this pandemic. As we continue to focus on boosting the District’s economy, this legislation will move us in the right direction by removing hurdles for businesses and providing new ways to bring in revenue. Since the public health emergency began last March, the District has led the nation in pivoting to support restaurants and food service establishments through various funding opportunities, including the $100 million Bridge Fund, the $33 million DC Small Business Microgrant Program, the Ward 7 and 8 Microgrant Program, the Small Business Resiliency Fund, and the Streatery Winter Ready Grant Program. As we move toward a new normal, we will continue creating more innovative programs that help local businesses make it to the other side of this pandemic.”

Proposed provisions in the Reopen Washington, DC Alcohol Act include:

Extending programs introduced on an emergency basis, including Streateries
Establishing a Commercial Lifestyle License that allows patrons to walk around and consume alcohol purchased from on-premises establishments within predefined boundaries
Creating a new 25 percent full-service grocery store Class A License to help attract new full service grocery stores to Wards 7 and 8; applicants interested in using this license to open a Class A grocery store in Wards 1-6 must first operate such a store in Wards 7 and 8 for at least six months
Amending several licensing operational requirements
