Morning Shooting at 13th and Pennsylvania Ave, SE

From DC Alerts:

“Shooting at 13th & Pennsylvania Ave SE LOF Dark colored Blue/Blk vehicle last seen towards downtown from the scene. 13th and E ST SE (southbound lanes), 500 b/o 13th Street and 13th and Pennsylvania Ave SE are closed due to police activity.”

On the Hill East listserve one resident reports:

“Ironically, I had just come from the [safety meeting with Councilman Allen] meeting at Curbside Cupcakes and was sweeping the sidewalk less than 500 ft. from where this shooting took place. From what I gather someone was shot in the leg coming out of Gourmet Express. He got into a car and they sped off.”

Update from MPD:

“This morning at approximately 9:00am, MPD responded to the 1400 block of First St. SW, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, a male victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. DCHA and detectives from the First District are actively investigating this offense.

Also this morning at approximately 10:20am, members responded to the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE for the report of a shooting. It was later learned the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg area and was being transported to the hospital by a private vehicle. Preliminary information indicates this offense may be the result of a traffic altercation between the victim and the suspect at the Sunoco Gas Station.

There is no correlation between these two events. However, the serious nature of both is of great concern and we have allocated additional resources to address the matter(s).

Anyone having information regarding either offense is asked to call MPD at (202) 727-9099 or Text Tip at 50411.”

3 Arrests Made in Early Morning Shooting at Georgia and Euclid St, NW (victim drove to 7th and S)

“On today’s date, at approximately 4:00 AM, shots were fired at a vehicle at Georgia and Euclid St. NW. The victim drove to the corner of 7th and S St. NW, to report the incident. Moments later, 3 subjects were stopped in the 200 block of V St. NW. The 3 subjects were placed under arrest for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, is urged to contact the Third District Detective’s Office on 202-673-6918.”

Another Gun Found Hidden in a Grill

After this morning’s report of three guns found in a grill – a reader reports:

“my neighbor found one in hers in noma about a month ago. cops were very proud they “recovered” it. Tweeted it. Um, no, she did and called y’all. I was pushing my 1 yo in a stroller and she called me over to confirm that’s what it was. Then we decided to move out of DC.”

“Yet another Package thief caught on camera in Brightwood. Should I confront them?”

“Dear PoPville,

Once again I was hit by yet another package thief (a pair of them in this case).
I work from home so I don’t usually have an issue when couriers leave the packages out on my porch, the problem is that the drivers for UPS and ‘LaserShip’ just plain refuse to ring the bell once they deliver a package, so, many times packages just sit there for a bit until I notice them. I actually walked out to pick up the packages (on this video) not even 2 minutes after the thieves stole some of them.

Funny thing is that the packages they stole only contained acne cream and other ‘beauty products’… judging by the video, they’re teens, so the acne cream might suit them well.

Sometimes I think I should take matters into my own hands and set them up and confront them… any thoughts on this PoPville?”

Suntrust Bank Robbed Twice this Week in Chevy Chase

“Robbery of Establishment(Suntrust bank) at 1110 hrs in the 5000 b/o Connecticut Ave NW LOF B/M 40 yrs of age, 5’6″, muscular build, bald,”

On Monday MPD issued a release:

“The Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force seeks the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in reference to a Bank Robbery which occurred at the SunTrust Bank in the 5000 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest, on Monday, October 19, 2015, at approximately 9:55 am.

The person of interest is described as a black male, medium build, 5’7” to 5’9” in height, dark complexion, short cropped hair, beard, and mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hoodie with a white zipper, blue jeans, and an earring in his left ear. He was last seen heading south in the 4900 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW.

“Earlier this evening the First District experienced five robberies within a 30 minute time span [The time span was approximately 8:50 pm to 9:30 pm.], the information appears below;

9th & F Street NE; 15-167-747

The suspect approached from behind stating , “you know what time it is” suspects -2/3 approached from across the street, S-2 flashed a gun in his waistband, obtained was a cell phone. Suspects last seen running south on 9th Street. (more…)

The Washington Post reports about a new incident in the 700 block of 7th Street, NW:

“Smith cursed at the officers and then punched one of them in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, police said.”

“I counted 6 shell casings lying in middle of Sherman Ave, each w/ a DC Police evidence flag next to it. Windows of SUV shot out. here’s a photo of the scene – black SUV is one with windows shot out & casings around it.”

A reader reports just after 11:30am:

“Tons of cops, ambulance, etc gathered and yellow tape everywhere. Heard cop radio says something about a shooting on Sherman avenue, but didn’t get address. We were diverted from the road at about Girard. If that’s the case, Sherman has seen tons of shootings lately.”

Updates when/if more is known.

“The Emergency Alert says: 3D Shooting, 1126 hours, 2900 block of Sherman Ave NW, LOF Toyota Camry Gray in color, B/M early 20’s, dark colored hoodie, thin build, white sneakers.”

Update from MPD:

“At approximately 11:15 am this morning Third District Units responded to the report of a shooting in the 2900 block of Sherman Ave, Nw. The victim was discovered unresponsive when officers arrived on the scene.

Anyone with information related to this incident are asked to contact MPD at 202 727-9099.”

Horrifying Details on Sexual Assault in Hill East “The wife needed surgery to reset 3 broken bones in her face”

Very little solace is that an an arrest has been made but some details coming out from the Hill East listserv are absolutely devastating. From a fundraiser posted for the family:

“Our friends in our Capitol Hill neighborhood suffered a violent attack when an intruder broke into the home and violently beat and assaulted the mom while she worked from home on Tuesday October 13. We have not included their names to maintain their privacy due to the utter brutality of the attack. The wife needed surgery to reset 3 broken bones in her face. The violent nature of the attack was so traumatic that the family is staying with friends and wants to sell their apartment and move immediately. Your donations will help a wonderful family of 4 who endured the unimaginable find a new home where they can feel safe and rebuild their life.”
