New Restaurant Coming to Petworth, from Owners of the Blaguard, Applies for Liquor License

Back in mid-Oct. we learned that the owners of the Blaguard were opening up a new restuarnt at 3911 Georgia Ave, NW next to Qualia coffee. At that time we learned the plans were for a new bistro and beer garden in the back patio. Super psyched to see things are already moving forward. The liquor license application says:

“A restaurant serving Mediterranean and American cuisine. Live bands and ensembles. Total number of seats is 250. Summer Garden seating for 50. Sidewalk Café seating for 10.”

Black Whiskey Opening in former Mar de Plata Space in Logan Circle

Tons of Logan Circle news this week. This space has been vacant since Mar de Plata closed back in May ’09. For a hot second it looked like a Fiat dealership would be taking over the space. Yesterday Washingtonian shared details about the Black Whiskey bar which will be taking over the space:

Darren Lee Norris says his new project, Black Whiskey, will debut in about 90 days.

Word came in the fall that the Kushi chef-owner signed a lease at 1410 14th Street, Northwest, and is transforming the two-story space into a whiskey bar and mixed-use art gallery.

We judged Kushi back in March 2010.

Huge U Street News: Italian Concept Coming to 1212 U St, NW from the Owner of Russia House and Biergarten Haus!?!

Yesterday we learned that an “Italian concept” was coming to the former CB 1212 space on U Street. A very reliable source sends a huge update – they confirm that this will indeed be an Italian concept but more importantly they say who is behind the new spot – the owner of Russia House (1800 Connecticut Avenue, NW) and Biergarten Haus (1355 H Street, NE.) So maybe this will be Casa Italiano?

Whatever it will be called this is gonna be huge for U Street. More info as it becomes available.

Dear PoPville – Anyone Know Why Tap and Parlor has been Temporarily Ordered Closed?

Dear PoPville,

Wondering if you know what has happened at Tap and Parlor and Bohemian Caverns? Police tape was around the full patio and there were police officers on site all day Saturday and it appears closed. Have not heard anything on news or list serves.

There is a note posted on their door saying that Tap and Parlor (11th and U St, NW) has closed due to “unforeseen circumstances” and updates will be given on their website:

The only thing I could find that could possibly be related from MPD was this tweet from Friday night:

“Robbery hold up Knife_2002 hours_1000 block of U Street NW_LOF: 10 B/M’s all wearing black jackets and blue jeans.”

In the past these temporary ordered closures are usually posted after some sort of violence has occurred. Did anyone happen to hear what happened?

Looks Like Bobby Lew’s Saloon has Closed in Adams Morgan

A reader sends word that Bobby’s Lew Saloon located at the bottom of Adams Morgan at 2006 18th Street, NW has closed. When I stopped by to confirm they were closed as well. While there was no closed sign on the door, their phone number has been disconnected and their twitter and facebook pages have gone dormant. Anyone know how long they’ve been closed?

Eno Wine Bar Coming to Georgetown

Eno Wine bar is coming to the former Lorenzo Menswear space next to the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown. Their website says:

Faces Lounge Coming to 1414 14th St, NW in Logan Circle

More news for the 14th and P St, NW section of Logan Circle. A liquor license posted out front of the Sav On Liquor store at 1414 14th Street, NW says that a new tavern called Faces Lounge is coming to the space:

“New Tavern. Serving chicken wings, burgers, pizza, and sandwiches. Entertainment to consist of live music. Occupancy load is 98.”

Updates as construction on the space progresses.

A&D Opens Today at 1314 9th Street, NW

Back in July we learned the former Lamont Bishop gallery space would become A&D tavern next to Seasonal Pantry on 9th Street. I stopped in yesterday for a few photos while finishing touches were being completed. They’ll open today at 5pm and in the future they plan to open for weekend brunch as well. Currently the hours are Sun.-Thurs. 5pm-1am and Fri.-Sat. 5pm-2am. Kitchen will likely close around 11pm.

An awesome addition to this section of 9th Street. Have a look:
