3605 14th St, NW

Back in late August we checked on the progress at Mad Momos coming to 3605 14th St, NW. It was looking very promising. Remember when it used to look like this? You can also see the amount of work that was done here. Now the space will make your jaw drop:

Their website says:

mad momos is a restaurant, beer deck and lounge in the heart of Columbia Heights, Washington, DC. We offer New American and crossover cuisine with a focus on hand-crafted momos.

WHAT’S A MOMO?
A momo is a tasty dumpling native to the Himalayan region. Almost all cultures have some variation of a momo – a savory or sweet stuffing wrapped in a sheet of pasta. Our unique artisanal momos are made on premise. We offer a fun, new, “mad” twist on the traditional momo with creative fillings, pasta and our dipping sauces complement each momo meal. Our pasta is made daily from scratch and our meats are all house-ground.

COME ENJOY OUR SPACE
Guests can enjoy a variety of spaces at mad momos. The first level contains a full-service bar and main dining area that extends onto an outdoor terrace with sidewalk seating. The second level features more dining, a charming treetop patio, vaulted ceiling lounge and second bar. Large windows, folding doors and skylights bring in lots of natural light. Exposed brick walls will feature rotating artwork from local artists as well as several green panels created by local permaculturists.

CRAFT BEER ENTHUSIASTS TAKE NOTE
Grab some friends or meet new ones while you enjoy a beer on our rooftop deck with picnic tables. It’s the perfect spot to savor one of 16 thoughtfully selected beers on tap and in bottles. Stop by now to try our winter selections.

For those who’ve been asking about PoP shirts, I’ll bring some with me but there are only limited sizes though I promise to be making the new ones, including the U Street logo winners, soon.

See ya tonight!

1200 Bladensburg Road, NE

Back in early October we learned that the Bardo brewpub hoped to reopen on a big lot at 1200 Bladensburg Road, NE. Things are rapidly progressing.

From indiegogo:

We have recently purchased a Beeutiful vacant lot in N.E. D.C., near the H. St. party corridor, in preparation for re-opening Bardo. The liquor license has been approved and construction plans have been submitted to the city. Construction is slated to start in December 2012. Plans for the bar include self serve taps, 500 outdoor seats, a funky building made from shipping containers, and the biggest brewery in the DC area. Bardo Rodeo operated in the 90’s as the largest brewpub in the country. The 22000 sq. ft. facility included 900 indoor & 700 outdoor seats and a 25-barrel brewhouse. As one of the first bars in the Clarendon neighborhood in Arlington VA, Bardo brewed 4000 kegs a year and enjoyed thousands of visitors each weekend. Indigogo provides the opportunity for Bardo to raise money to fund the project.

It’s like paying half price for the beer now but drinking it later.

Bardo currently has 300K in cash and 300K in brewing equipment but we need to raise another 150K (to do the custom programming on the Self-Serve Beer Setup). Our main fundraising focus is HALF-PRICE BEER. That’s right, HALF-PRICE BEER. Don’t wanna pay DC prices of $25 for a pitcher of beer? Get 100 Dollas of Beer for $50 pledge! Think of this as a big Groupon-style offering…

We also got T-shirts, pre-release tasting of the first batches of Bardo beer, private pre-opening party…

Also included in the fun will be self serve beer taps, outdoor beer garden, cornhole, and lots of other unmentionable happenings…

More info after the jump. (more…)

You can see their menu here.

Thanks again to Meridian Pint (11th and Park Rd, NW) and DC Brau for hosting the 6 year PoPville anniversary party this Thursday from 5pm – close. And thanks to all of you who’ve made PoPville what it is today. I will be at Meridian Pint at 5pm and plan on being coherent until approximately 10pm after that I make no guarantees… Looking forward to seeing lots of old and new faces – see ya Thursday!

1210-1212 H Street, NE

The big news dropped right before Thanksgiving. From Red Palace’s facebook page:

Red Palace: Fare-thee-well.

After almost seven years the Red Palace will sadly close it’s doors at the end of the year. The current ownership is changing, and with that change comes new ideas for the future.

Red Palace had it’s beginnings in The Red & The Black and The Palace of Wonders. The Red & The Black a quirky little live music venue. The Palace of Wonders a Vaudevillian entertainment bar replete with sideshow oddities. Loving neighbors from the beginning it seemed only natural when they were joined in 2010 to become the Red Palace.

We would like to thank the H street community, businesses and the many talented artists and entertainers we’ve had the pleasure of hosting. We especially want to thank our patrons and our fantastic staff for making it a great place to be, and truly one-of-a-kind.

We love H Street, and feel privileged to be a part of the community. Join us over the next several weeks for a show, a drink and a bite to eat as we say farewell. Don’t miss our “Ball Drop” New Year’s Eve. It will be a party to be remembered.

Any fans of Red Palace? Stay tuned for word on the new owners plans.

11th and Park Road, NW

From the folks at Meridian Pint:

We will close the ground floor from 10PM on Wednesday, November 21st to Monday, November 26th at 5PM. The basement will be open the following:

Thursday 11/22 from 8PM to close
Friday 11/23 from 5PM to close
Saturday 11/24 from 5PM to close
Sunday 11/25 from noon to close
Monday we will re-open as usual.

We will not have an operational kitchen during that time so there will be no internal food service. We will be providing take out menu’s for folks to order out if they wish. Guest’s will also be allowed to bring in any take out that they wish during this time.

3232 11th Street, NW

Back in Jan. 2012 we learned that Room 11 would be expanding next door into the former Jeans n Things space at 11th and Lamont St, NW. The renovations have been completed – and the expansion looks just as good if not better than the original space:

Room 11’s general manager Jessica Woods explains the expansion:

We envisioned the new space as a European-style cafe, offering simple but high-quality espresso beverages, coffee and tea. At night, our new bar menu will offer a few rotating cocktails highlighting aperitifs and digestifs. These cocktails will be available throughout all of Room 11 (wine bar and expansion cafe) and guests at the new bar may order any current Room 11 bar offering, we’ll just run it over from the current space.

In the morning, we’ll open at 8 a.m. each day, offering coffee service through dinner. We’ll have a small breakfast menu to start, highlighting pastries, and begin to offer lunch at 11 a.m.

At dinner, the full current Room 11 menu is available in all spaces. As you know, our new chef, Adam Howard, started Monday. So far he’s focused his attention on getting familiar with our space and drafting a lunch menu, but we’re excited to see him rolling out new dishes on the dinner menu as the winter progresses.

The new space has 12 table seats and 6 bar seats, enough to significantly decrease the wait for a space in the winter, but (we think) not so many that we endanger our intimate vibe.

Having stopped in last night I can def. say the vibe is intact! Have a look:
