711-713 Kennedy Street, NW
Ed. Note: 713 Kennedy is located right next to the future ANXO Cidery, who also just applied for a liquor license at 711 Kennedy (closest to alley) “Bar serving cider with a seating capacity of 49. Total Occupancy Load of 49. Requesting a wine pub endorsement.”
From a press release:
“District-area coffee drinkers have a new source for high-quality coffee as Lost Sock Roasters, a small-batch artisanal coffee roaster, opened its roasting facility this week at 713 Kennedy St. NW.
Founded in 2015, Lost Sock Roasters is dedicated to developing outstanding coffee sustainably. Lost Sock carefully roasts to accentuate the unique and delicious flavors in each of its coffees. 1407 T Street, NW
Ed. Note: Bakehouse opened back in May 2013.
“Sunday May, 22nd will be our last day of operation as a retail bakery.
Our wholesale business has taken off, so we are going to focus on this in order to allow for future growth.
We will continue to operate out of our kitchen at 1407 T Street NW, and we have arranged for another local business to take over the storefront. (We’re not yet able to announce who’ll be moving in, but – for now – suffice it to say that we’re thrilled to be working with them, and we think they’ll be a great addition to the neighborhood!) 14th and U Street, NW
Almost exactly a year ago we learned about the termination of their franchise agreement. While they never closed, and we wondered where the hell the donuts and coffee came from, looks like it all worked itself out with signage posted “under new management”.
Whew/damn it, depending on your perspective…

1000 Vermont Ave, NW (just north of K Street)
Thanks to Callan for sending: “Welp. Saxby’s coffee closed on Vermont Ave downtown”
At first I thought it might just be a remodel but this location is no longer on their website.

Compass Coffee opened their uber popular first location at 1535 7th Street, NW and their second location on 8th Street just south of Florida Ave. Their third location will be located right across the street from the Verizon Center:
