1710 I Street, NW

A reader reports:

“The former Dickey’s Frozen Custard space on I St NW between 17th and 18th has a sign saying that La Colombe is coming to the space. Farragut is in dire need of good coffee, so this is a welcome addition.”

La Colombe now has locations at 924 Blagden Alley NW, 900 6th Street, NW and is opening soon to 1346 Florida Ave. NW.

Come on now… Filter isn’t that far away.

      And Coffee Bar.

If you’re a block or two north or east of Farragut, Filter is a 10 minute walk. That’s a long way to run out for a cup of coffee.

      • The Coffee Bar is a 5 minute walk from Farragut Square, straight shot up 17th St.

How many office workers are really gonna walk that far for an afternoon coffee?

          • Truxton Thomas

Especially when there’s a Pret-a-Manger, Starbucks, and Peet’s between the northern edge of the square and TCB. I love that the TCB is there, but I don’t begrudge La Colombe for arriving in the neighborhood. I’m just glad there are more local and non-national options nearby.

I am at Connecticut and K and walked to Filter in I St. NW for years. Now I mostly go to TCB. I will be a regular at La Colombe, though I cherish the slightly longer walks to grab an afternoon espresso and escape the stifling monotony of the office. Might take to looping through Lafayette Square and then La Colombe.

Not every office is directly on Farragut Square. Coffee Bar and Filter are both a nine minute walk from my office. I’m not walking that far for a cup of coffee in the middle of the work day (and I’m definitely not going that far out of my way in the morning).

This isn’t the first time they have opened close to other DC-based specialty coffee shops. I would much rather go to Peregrine, Chinatown Coffee Co, Filter, etc..

Yay!!! I’m so excited about this. Agreed that Farragut is in dire need of a good coffee spot that is not Pret or Starbucks, especially since Swing’s closed.

Meh. I’d rather have Dickey’s back. La Colombe’s coffee is good but it’s really nothing special these days.

      +1
I miss Dickey’s during these dog days of summer. My office mates went all the time. Plus, their carved turkey sandwiches were fantastic (if not sleep inducing…)

I’m a La Colombe acolyte, but also love frozen custard. They should have coffee and custard
