Dear PoPville,
Coworkers just found a puppy in SW near Fort McNair [2nd & S St SW]. We’re taking him up to Washington Humane Society [NY Ave facility] now. He’s very friendly, but also extremely dirty, so he may have been missing for a few days.

Lu
Dear PoPville,
Yesterday evening I was walking my dog on Columbia Rd NW near Warder St when all of a sudden a pitbull came bounding across the street in front on traffic and attacked my dog.
The scene was horrible, it had my poor Lu by the neck and would let go. I was pounding it on its head and body, the owner quickly came over and tried to pry the dogs jaws from my Lu’s neck, but the pitbull would not let go. By this time, people had stopped their cars and one gentleman came over to see if he could help. the pitbull’s owner asked if he had any kind of spray he could spray the dog. He went into his car and got a can and started to spray the dog in the face. Meanwhile I kept pounding the dogs head and the owner was still trying to get its jaws apart. Finally the dog released my Lu.
I had to rush her to the vet where I was told she had a hole a bit larger than a silver dollar and a puncture wound on the neck. Both the dog’s owner and I suffered cuts, bites, and contusions on our hands. One thing I have to say is the owner took full responsibility and called Animal Control. We have a report in and hopefully an officer will come today to inspect Lu.
We had a horrible night, Lu couldn’t stop shaking, and today she is sullen with little appetite, and obviously pain. My hands are sore and swollen. We are two tough ladies and will get through this. But to your readers I just ask please keep your dogs leashed, especially with these large unpredictable dogs, as you never know when your dog will decide to attack. This was unprovoked, and as I said the dog crossed the street to get to mine. I know people say it is not the dog its the owner and how she/he trains the dog, but I sincerely think that this owner is a good owner…something just snapped in her dog.

Had to do a double check when I passed this dog on a roof next to Morgan’s Seafood off Georgia Ave. But when I called animal control they said it was all good – there is a ramp that the dog can climb up and stretch his legs and do some people watching when he wants. Now that I write this, I kinda feel like a reader once told us about this in the past. Anyway, fear not if you notice a dog checking you out from a roof while you’re walking around Georgia Ave., it’s cool. And actually pretty awesome once you realize he’s just chilling.

Dear PoPville,
Today I found a dog wandering in the alley between 11th and 10th street near Monroe and Otis NW. She is a very friendly dog and let me pick her right up. She had a collar on but no tags. Her picture is attached. If you could please post and if this is someone’s dog I am sure they are missing her already. My email is kathleensdavis(at)gmail(dot)com.

I have a friend who is looking for a home for her retired guide dog, Missy. Missy is 12 years old and a bit overweight, but really sweet and great with kids and other pets. She’s also well trained. I would take her if I could, but I’m already at the pet limit for my apartment complex.
If you are interested, please email me at estrickland@gmail.

Thanks to all who sent word about the zoning hearing placard posted at DC USA. Back in Nov. ’12 we learned that a Petco was coming to DC USA. Looks like it’ll be at the corner of Hiatt and Irving St, NW underneath the new DSW.

Dear PoPville,
We adopted a wonderful year-old dog in October (shout out to Humane Society for being great) and she needs a lot of exercise. We live near the Upshur dog park, but unfortunately our pooch is shy around large numbers of other dogs and after several attempts now refuses even to walk down the block in the direction of the park. Neither of us are runners, but we like to walk and hike a lot, and she gets her best exercise by dashing madly up and down a quiet section of trail off-leash in front of us. We often take her walking off-leash in the northern section of Rock Creek Park where she sometimes meets and does fine with other off-leash dogs singly or in small groups. But, we’ve already explored many of the more distant trails in Rock Creek Park and would love to take the opportunity to exercise our dog and explore other parts of the city!
Any recommendations on good places to walk/hike off-leash (read: away from roads and cars, not highly trafficked with other dogs but popular enough to feel safe) with our dog?

“Dear PoPville,
My wife and I found a stray pit bull on Maryland Ave NE- just past Stanton Park.
He is incredibly friendly but in rough shape. Appears to be no more than 6-8 months old- he is neutered. No collar besides the prong collar and he has some wounds on his backside.
I’m giving him to animal control as I can’t really bring him home to our pup. They are bringing him to NY ave shelter if anyone is looking for him or needs a new friend.”

Dear PoPville,
This morning, I found a dog wandering around the intersection of Sherman and New Hampshire, where all the construction is. He’s probably about 50 lbs, black, friendly, and needs a good bath but other than that seems healthy. Also wanted to point out he has a collar but no tags. I took him in and gave him some water and some food. I go home for the holidays tomorrow. If I don’t hear from the owner I will have to take him to the shelter tomorrow.
I can be reached by email at ascheeler@gmail.com Thanks!

Dear PoPville,
I found this dog this morning around 8 AM when I was walking my own dogs. She came towards us on Kenyon btwn 11/13th. She was shaking and seemed nervous. She has a red collar, but no tags. I currently have her at my house, but she won’t come upstairs! Please help me find her owner!
If this is your dog or you know who’s dog it is please email me at princeofpetworth(at)gmail and I’ll put you in touch with the OP.
