From a press release:

“Join some of the DC-area’s best home bakers for the 5th Annual Pie Fest on Sunday, October 23, 2016 (1pm to 4pm)!

Come have fun at the all-you-can-eat pie tasting to support a great foundation honoring the memory of our friend Jayna Murray.

The event will be upstairs at Bourbon in Adams Morgan (2321 18th Street). How does it work? Bring a homemade pie to compete for prizes, or just come to eat and be merry. There will be an on-site cash bar. And don’t worry fans of the gridiron, the TVs will be tuned to football.

Each pie can be entered into one of six categories:

• Apple
• Fruit (other than apple)
• Nuts
• Chocolate
• Savory
• Piepourri (miscellaneous)

Any filling in a 9-inch pie crust qualifies, and there are no limits on entries. Attendees taste as many pies as they want and vote for their favorite in each category.
Pie entries must arrive between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM, voting closes at 3:30 PM, and winners will be announced at 4:00PM. There will be six winners – but with an afternoon of delicious pie, rest assured, there will be no losers!

Tax-deductible tickets are $15 if entering pie and $25 if just bringing your appetite.
Tickets must be purchased in advance via Eventbrite.

All proceeds will be donated to the Jayna Troxel Murray Foundation

, which supports and promotes the interests and passions (academics, athletics, travel, fine arts, and overall personal improvement) that were prominent in defining and enriching Jayna’s life, with the intended outcome of bettering the lives of others. The foundation provides scholarships for tuition to particular educational programs (undergraduate and graduate study, travel abroad, and summer camps) that Jayna attended: St. Louis University Madrid study abroad program, Semester at Sea, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, and Kamp Kanakuk. Donations gratefully accepted.”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
