3200 block of Mt Pleasant Street, NW

M Bachand shares with us from Mount Pleasant: “Even the rats have had enough.”

To get the unpleasant out in one post…

“Dear PoPville,

Wondering if you have any insight into this crazy situation we are having on our block in NoMa.

It looks like someone, likely a neighbor, is actively trying to get more rats on the block. As in not just being sloppy, but going out of their way to go into other peoples’ trash cans, rip open their garbage bags, and throw the garbage on the ground. (more…)

1300 block of Florida Ave, NW

Lots of chatter from folks lamenting the sight of dog excrement around town.

My take:

This happens after every snow storm. Hell some despicable folks don’t pick up after their pets in any weather. I believe the dog crap is just more noticeable contrasting on the white snow. Some people are just jerks in any season. Having said that, there are also currently trash cans overflowing with poop bags. So pick your poison I guess…

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that DC Public Schools will open on a two-hour delay on Monday, February 2 and on time on Tuesday, February 3. Families with students enrolled at a public charter school should expect to hear directly from their school and can also check here to see if their school has changes to their operating posture.

DC Government will open on time. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Just checking in again on the basically daily occurrence here in Mt Pleasant. Once again, illegally parked (and/or poorly parked) cars are blocking the D72 from turning around. Cars are always parking in front of the stop sign on that strip of 17th St right next to Lamont Plaza. Not joking, this happens at least once a day – thankfully right now the bus driver is doing the rational thing and not laying on the horn. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Our street, the 1600 block of Underwood St. NW, hasn’t been plowed a single time since the storm a week ago. In the last day alone my teenage son has helped at least three cars stuck in the street spinning their wheels on the ice. We have elderly and disabled residents restricted to their homes, unable to get to the grocery store or doctors office. We haven’t had mail delivery either the entire week.

We have called 311 repeatedly. The 1600 blocks of Van Buren and Tuckerman are equally messy and dangerous. Photo attached! (Don’t be distracted by the lovely sunset over the park…)”
