At the risk of repeating myself – looks like we have another end of an era for Adams Morgan. In no particular recent order – Millie & Al’s, Mixtec, Pasta Mia, Meskerem, Pharmacy Bar, Toledo Lounge, Crumbs & Coffee, Napoleon Bistro, Locolat, Cashion’s Eat Place and today we add La Fourchette to the mix. Back in September 2014 we first learned La Fourchette was for sale. The price was reduced to $2.6 million in October 2015. Now a reader reports the building has sold:
“La Fourchette has been sold. Apparently to someone who wants to turn it into a Mexican restaurant. last day of operation will be either May 31 (according to Pierre’s wife) or June 15, according to Pierre.”
Updates as more info is learned on an exact closing date and potential replacements.
No longer active but before it came down La Fourchette’s website said:
“Located in the trendy district of Adams Morgan, the longest standing Cafe Restaurant La Fourchette offers its guest an opportunity to experience fine French Cuisine. Since 1978 Chef Pierre Chauvet and hostess Jacqueline Chauvet have been serving guest the authentic taste of France in the heart of Adams Morgan.
La Fourchette opened its doors, after the midst of controversy of riots in Adams Morgan. The first restaurant come back during those hard times, and still we stand 34 years later. Owner and Chef Pierre Chauvet and his wife Jacqueline made the move from La Rochelle, France to build what is the best French Restaurant in Adams Morgan.”

A reader reports last night:
“Looks like Hälsa in Brookland has closed without any reason. Sign says “Closed. Sorry for any inconvenience.” Windows are all covered and inside looks like the kitchen is all disassembled. Hopefully they are just having equipment issues.”
A few weeks ago I got some scuttlebutt that Halsa was likely closing but I was hoping it was wrong. Interestingly, perhaps, at that same time I was told that a new Starbucks was coming to Brookland somewhere in this new development. Updates when we learn more on both fronts. Halsa, who billed themselves as “Healthy Fast Food” opened up only in January 2015. In addition to the healthy food, they also were known for their phenomenal murals. Hoping they can make a comeback.

That’s the scuttlebutt I’m hearing. Updates if/when more is known about Flywheel’s plans. Flywheel currently has a location at 1927 Florida Ave, NW and is coming next to City Center.

On Monday we learned that a Starbucks was very likely coming to 14th and U St, NW (I’m now 99.9% sure this is accurate.) And now I’ve got even more scuttlebutt for some retail spaces around 14th and U Street, NW. I’m told that it is very likely a Lululemon yoga clothing and accessories store is coming as well as a Nando’s Peri Peri chicken spot. Thumbs up or down for these likely new additions?

A couple months ago we learned that Redline Sports Bar was ordered to pay “$687,000 in damages after finding [an employee] was the victim of discrimination”. Now I’m hearing that this Sunday, March 27 could be the last day Redline will be open. I’ve sent an email for more details and will update when/if more is known.
Redline’s website says:
“Washington DC’s newest luxury gastropub Redline is located in the heart of DC’s Penn Quarter, steps away from the bustling Verizon Center and just across the street from the National Portrait Gallery.
Featuring built-in table taps, Redline offers a 130-seat sportspub and an 86-seat restaurant presenting “American cuisine with a French flair”. An 11-foot projection screen and over 40 flat screens provide instant visibility to your favorite sports games and news channel powerlunches.”

A short and sweet email:
“The old Labamba Sub shop at corner of Georgia and Euclid st NW is being renovated into a bar with a rooftop deck.”
Updates when we learn more/as construction (finally) progresses.
