From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced a four-month amnesty program giving drivers the opportunity to pay outstanding tickets for parking, photo enforcement (including speed, red-light, and stop sign), and minor moving violations. The amnesty program will run from June 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021, and includes tickets issued before September 30, 2021. This program is launching as the District plans to restart on June 1 several government functions– such as all parking enforcement, towing of illegally parked vehicles, and requirements to renew vehicle registrations and inspections– that had been suspended during the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency. More functions will be restarting July 1.  (more…)

Ed. Note: If you missed our look back on commemorative smartrip cards, you can see them here.

From WMATA:

“Metro’s original SmarTrip® cards will soon become a relic of the past, as Metro invests in new faregates, fareboxes and fare payment options that will make it quicker and easier to pay but won’t be compatible with the old cards. Customers are encouraged to replace their old SmarTrip cards now to avoid issues later.

The first generation SmarTrip cards contain outdated chip technology and were produced prior to 2012. Metro is phasing out use of the cards in conjunction with the year-long rollout of new faregates in stations starting as early as June and new bus fareboxes next year. As many as 400,000 of the old cards were in active use prior to the pandemic, affecting a small percentage of the six million SmarTrip cards that were in active circulation at the time. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Let folks know that there’s someone on the metro randomly pepper spraying people. He sprayed me right as he was getting off the train so I can’t identify him. I was on either the orange or silver line heading towards Virginia and sitting on the bench near the train door. The door opened at L’enfant Plaza and the guy sprayed me as he was getting off the train. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Over the past few months, a woman driving a white Lexus mini-SUV has been harassing dog owners in Navy Yard and the Wharf. Both from her vehicle and on foot she has accused dog owners of underfeeding their dogs and even picked up a small dog while it was still leashed with the owner holding its leash and started walking toward her car with the dog. Most recently, after multiple attempts to get my attention while I tried to ignore her, she yelled from her vehicle “Excuse me, I work with dogs and you are underfeeding your dog”. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have lived in DC for 9 years and Columbia Heights for 6 years, and I love the community we have. I need your help identifying a sexual predator I was surprised to find on my (basement level) patio last night, at approximately 11:40pm. This transpired in the alley between Holmead and 13th St NW, between Otis and Monroe.

I looked out my bedroom window to notice the motion light had been activated, and when I looked more closely I saw a man with no pants on, (more…)
