“Father-Son duo launch a Latin donut shop pop-up”

From an email:

“Whether you call them bizcochos, bunuelos, sonho, roscas, or sopapillas, donuts are universally loved! That is why Miguel Guerra (father) and Miguel Guerra (son) are teaming up to re-create the special Latin American donut pop-up shop, which has been a nationwide hit in Colombia, Donisima.

“I am very happy to team up with my dad in this new culinary project,” said Miguel Guerra. “We wanted to do something different and special yet highlighting our cultural roots. Donuts are comforting, tasty, and as varied as people are, so we thought this would be fun. Our small batch process allows us to concentrate on taste and play with more creative local and native ingredients and flavors. These donuts are one-of-a-kind.”

Currently operating in a ghost kitchen in the Union Market District, Donisima is a modern artisanal donut shop taking the classic donut to a completely new level. The donuts are made with the finest ingredients and feature pleasing designs. The pastries will come in different varieties including cake, brioche, crullers and many more.

Tempting options paying homage to Latin American regional flavors and ingredients include:

The Classic, made with vanilla bean glaze
Rum Fashion, made with brioche donut filled with rum pastry cream topped with orange confit and 55% chocolate
Arequipe, a brioche donut with arequipe, or Colombian dulce de leche, glaze and cream, topped with queso fresco streusel
Guava and Cheese, a brioche donut filled with guava infused cream and topped with cream cheese frosting and coconut streusel.
Amor al Chocolate, a brioche donut with chocolate glaze, filled with chocolate and topped with cacao and hazelnut streusel 24kt gold leaf
Donut bites, half dozen mini donuts with vanilla bean glaze.

Each donut price range is from $4.00 – $5.00.

WHEN: Quantities are limited. Orders can be placed for pick up or delivery through UberEats, Tock and Doordash.

WHERE: 1369 New York Ave NE, Washington D.C

WHY: A superlative adjective meaning “super donut” in Spanish, Donisima marries Latin American flavors and feel with sophisticated modern techniques resulting in one of the most comforting and flavorful pastries around. Using a family brioche dough recipe and featuring an array of brightly colored coatings and flavor profiles, the concept promises to be everything Washingtonians want from a donut shop.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
