A reader reports yesterday:
“I went to Giant Foods in Columbia heights to buy some groceries and I saw this mess in its parking garage. I was told it was a fourth car involved which was all destroyed, besides the truck that caused the accident. That happened on Saturday but I went on Sunday afternoon and the cars were still there.”

Just a quick heads up to my Navy Yard peeps. A neighbor watched construction workers posting these signs right around 10am. She was questioning the fact that cars were already parked there. You can see it was printed yesterday and they literally posted them after the restricted time began. I’m fortunate enough to have garage parking, but just wanted to give a warning to anyone parked on I (eye) street, SE between half and 1st Street.”

We live in Dupont. I can’t remember the last time anyone got a parking ticket, even when “creatively” parking, especially at 2:17am. The infraction just says “12 ft from stop sign.” Which I think means that even though there is no sign indicating that parking is prohibited, I should have known better than parking too close to a stop sign.
DC has done a great job of confusing the issue with inconsistent signs – or in my case no sign – over the years. It looks like the 25 feet from a stop sign rule is still on the books but is applied inconsistently. (more…)
A reader sends Council Member Brandon Todd’s car Saturday afternoon: “On Upshur street during the petworth day festival. Worth noting there were various spots a block further away.”
Ed. Note: We’ve previously learned that Council Members are not obligated to follow parking regulations however they still shouldn’t park in front of fire hydrants. Also, it just really pisses people off but bigger fish to fry I guess.

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced enhanced enforcement is set to begin in the Dupont Circle Nightlife no parking pick-up drop off zones on and around Connecticut Avenue NW.
Starting Thursday, August 30, 2018 vehicles parked in the zones and not picking up or dropping off people will be towed. (more…)

This car in the picture has been parked on our block for over two weeks now. It has never moved and has out of state plates (I looked under the cover).
This morning I saw a parking officer and asked if she could check it out and see if they have a visitors permit or another legal reason to park there. She told me that they are not allowed to remove or lift up car covers for legal reasons… (more…)

I recently moved out of my apartment and jumped through all the appropriate hoops to get the street parking spots in front of my building reserved for a moving truck. My permits were approved well before my move, and I posted and verified the signs one week prior to my move date (signs must be posted a minimum of 72 hours in advance).
Despite all this, two cars were still parking in my reserved zone at 9am on the morning of my move! One had been there all night, and the other parked sometime that morning. Ultimately, I had to get both towed because A) I had hired movers to show up at 10am and B) there was nowhere else to park the truck without blocking the street. (more…)

I wanted to alert my neighbors on the 1900 block of Calvert Street and the surrounding area that cars parked on the south side of the street were wrongfully ticketed and towed Saturday July 21st. “No Parking” signs were posted by a private mobile crane operator yesterday to install an HVAC unit this morning. The signs clearly indicated that they were printed on Friday July 20th, not the 72 hours in advance required by District law. (more…)
