“Dear PoPville,

Question for readers re: vehicle inspection/registration. Our inspection/registration expired in April 2020. At the time DC DMV extended expiration dates until the public health emergency ends. The DMV website indicates that continues to be the case for all DLs, IDs, registrations, inspections, etc. expiring 3/1/20 to 3/17/21. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Suffice it to say, we are all starting to lose our minds over quarantine. I’m a vaccinated health care worker. My husband works from home. We have skewed to the more conservative side of quarantining. I do the groceries and that’s about all we do outside of the house aside from walks around the neighborhood, arboretum, etc. We went to a restaurant once in October and both felt uncomfortable with the proximity to other people, physical interactions with staff. That being said, it sounds like restaurants are learning to step up and adapt in innovative ways. I know there is an inherent risk with all interactions these days, but I was hoping for recommendations for any restaurant/bars that readers thought were handling COVID service especially well. We appreciate any input!”

Full disclosure: I drank a lot of these masterpieces. A LOT.

Allow me to introduce you to All-Purpose Shaw’s new freezer cocktails:

Thanks to Kendra for passing on the sad news about Santa Rosa (315 Pennsylvania Ave, SE): “This is really sad. ⁦@SantaRosaTacos is closed for the rest of the year. A lot of Captiol Hill dwellers have been waiting patiently for ⁦@chefspike to reopen after they said they were doing a short remodel. We will miss the queso!”

Update from Corey Holman: “Fear not, the new location isn’t far. Per various public documents, they’ll be moving to the old Pret space 7 doors down at 301 Pennsylvania Ave SE.” (more…)

The start of street sweeping and finding proper parking spaces. Alas on March 15th 2020, almost a year ago, street sweeping was suspended for the public health emergency. DPW confirmed street sweeping would remain suspended during phase two of the public health emergency. As we are still in phase two it seems there is still no need to move those cars. Will update should DPW/the Mayor’s office change that directive.

You are not alone, again.

Readers report: “How did the DC COVID website crash again!?!? Third day in a row”

Despite the frustration there’s still a chance if you don’t get in at first:

“Just keep refreshing the page don’t start over. I was able to sign up after 10 minutes of just hitting refresh each time I got a “service unavailable” page after clicking to the next page. It’s really frustrating though…”

“Yes – keep hitting refresh! I had totally given up after the site crashed a bunch and was on hold for 30 minutes then read this, hit refresh and it went through”

Update from DC Health: “Appointments that opened today are filled. More available for eligible residents in priority zip codes on March 4. Additional appointments for all DC residents 65+, those with a qualifying medical condition (18+), and/or members of an eligible workforce group on Friday, March 5.”

The frustration though: (more…)
