“Friends, it is with mixed emotion that we share this with you! Like millions, we have been struggling for over a year now to keep our DOORS OPEN, while operating 20/30% of our normal capacity and Income. We have done a good job following all the COVID rules to the “T.” AFTER ALL THAT, we were not successful in negotiating a new LEASE. So, like many long-time businesses in Woodley Park, we are forced to close the doors of Salon Roi after 52 years in the same Building.

So, June 30th, we will be leaving Our MARILYN MURAL behind, as we all pack our styling carts and head to SALON ROI (#2) (more…)

“Free Timed-Entry Passes Available Beginning May 14

When visitors return to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute May 21, they will find both familiar and new faces as they explore the park. Although the Zoo has been closed since Nov. 23, 2020, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the animal care team reported to work and provided the same level of care for their charges as any other day. Animals newly on view include giant panda cub Xiao Qi Ji, Amur tiger Mitas, Przewalski’s horse mother-son duo, Barbie and Cooper, Komodo dragon juvenile Onyx, Andean bear Brienne, American bison Lucy and Gally, California sea lion Charger and North American beaver Poplar, a new wallaby joey and a kudu calf. The Reptile Discovery Center will be open on the weekends, Friday through Sunday.

As the Zoo prepares to reopen to the public, updates have been made to its hours and entry requirements. In addition to limiting the number of visitors, the Zoo is once again implementing required safety procedures and guidelines. “Today, DC Health announced that on Thursday, May 13, DC residents who are 12-15 years old can begin getting vaccinated at walk-up sites, hospitals, health centers, and pharmacies across DC that administer the Pfizer vaccine. Earlier this week, the FDA extended the Emergency Use Authorization for Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 Vaccine to ages 12 and older and today the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended the Pfizer vaccine for use in adolescents 12-15 years of age.

Beginning tomorrow, residents aged 12 and older can get vaccinated at the following District walk-up sites whenever they are open: (more…)
